From the vintage "Railway" and "Wheels" magazines in the 1930s train carriage to the perfectly fitted out kitchen for preparing dinner, the attention to detail at this place is amazing! It was such a lovely surprise to find ourselves somewhere so welcoming and comfortable after four hours of walking through the bush. I especially enjoyed the eccentric and impressive carpentry,...

Spent two nights at this wonderful oasis nestled into the bush and farmlands of Nydia Bay. Greeted with homemade carrot cake and a big mug of fresh tea. We were thinking of walking in but it was quite wet so caught the water taxi instead. Went on wonderful walks out of the lodge and came back for hot tubs and...

My partner, his family, and I all hiked in and stayed at the lodge for a night then hiked out the next day. Our only regret was that we didn't book 2 nights so we could stay and enjoy it longer. The walk in and out are both about 4 and a half hours - and you need to have...

The Lodge is at Nydia Bay, in a remote part of New Zealand's Marlborough Sounds. We were fifteen walking friends who traversed the beautiful Nydia Track in two days in April this year with an overnight stay at the Lodge. The Lodge is about halfway with a 5-hour walk each way to the ends of the Track. There is no...

Helen and Art had only recently taken over as the new owners and pulled off their first wedding dinner at the Lodge. We had such an awesome time relaxing at Nydia Bay, the family was very welcoming and really helpful guiding us around the area. Couldn't have asked for better hosts. Thanks to Nick and little Art for helping us...

We stayed here a night over Easter weekend and loved every second. From the moment we arrived the staff were so friendly and welcoming, serving us tea and homemade cake before giving us a tour of the facilities. We were a group of four, two of us shared a train carriage and two of us stayed in the 6-person yurt....

We traveled on the Pelrous Mail Boat to Nydia Bay, where we spent two nights at the On The Track Lodge, before getting back on the Mail Boat to get back to Havelock. Both experiences rate our highest praise. On The Track Lodge has wonderful facilities in the middle of the Pelorus sound, generating their own electricity, heating their hot...

What a wonderful place for our family to gather for 3 days....We came from Hawkes Bay, Whangarei, Sydney and Christchurch and all wished we could have stayed longer. Helen, Art and their family were great hosts.. Nothing was any trouble. The setting was perfect for a wedding and the accommodation excellent.

Stayed in the railcar. Just needed the whistle and clickety clickety of the wheels. They have a small shop with a selection of wines and other essentials. Meals are cook your own with a selection of main dishes that are available to reheat/cook yourself. One does ones own dishes. By arrangement larger parties can arrange a set menu. Look if...
