Last minute the day of I created a reservation for four nights at this property. I knew the location was in Old Town which is a tourism attraction area so I had some expectations.
Upon arriving I did notice the hotel did look a little "old". I checked in via a glass window because their lobby is closed due to Covid-19. The hotel charges $10/per day for parking in their garage. Personally, I parked every night right in front of the property with street parking for free.
As I was traveling to my assigned room I did notice the elevator and hallways could use extra cleaning and a man was smoking outside the room next to my room. When I opened the door I was shocked by how large the room was. As I was walking around the room I realized it was kind of tattered, dusty, and smelled like smoke (possibly from the neighbors). I am displeased that the staff would even booked that room with it's conditions.
I immediately panicked and called the network I booked the reservation through. The represented advised that I chat with the front desk staff about cancelling and a refund. I requested to cancel the reservation and for a refund to the front desk staff. The staff member explained that because I was in the room for over 20 minutes I could not request a full refund. I was explaining that my intentions to cancel is based on having an autoimmune disease and being an asthmatic and I cannot stay in a dirty room or be around smoke especially during this pandemic.
The staff member did explain he was going to remedy the situation by offering me another room and if the room was not up to par then he will take further steps. He took me another floor and offered me a suite. I would compliment them and state that their rooms are very large for the price and this would be good size for a family.
The suite did look much cleaner, however, I did asked for the staff member to clean the air conditioner because it was visibly dusty.
The remainder of my stay was nice. Housekeeping was great with cleaning my room everyday. It was interesting to see atypical people around the hotel and it was little concerning to see the police consistently riding around the property. There was one day when law enforcement was there for a situation I am unaware of.
To be honest I did expect better from the reviews and photo of this property. However, this is a really good location in a tourism area, the rooms are a large size, and it very affordable.
Room Tip: Book a suite! It looks the cleanest.
