We wanted a taste of the west coast before/in case we get locked down again and decided on Tighnabruaich. We booked at the Royal an Lochan for two nights and had a warm welcome from Greg on our arrival. Our room overlooked the Kyles of Bute with stunning views from all the windows. The bathroom was enormous and so comfortable; great shower and amazing big bath. Throughout our stay, we were made to feel very welcome and at home. The breakfasts were beautifully cooked and on our second night for dinner we had a superb meal of freshly caught scallops. The chef knew his stuff and Emma with her lovely smile was a charming waitress! We felt very safe as all precautions against Covid had been put in place. I really can’t recommend the hotel highly enough. We left feeling utterly relaxed and promising ourselves we will return soon. Hazel and Henry O’Hara, Edinburgh

The hotel is in an amazing location on the Kyles of Bute. Views are stunning particularly during sunset. Free parking is across the road from the hotel and there is a bus stop directly outside of the hotel. The Tighnabruaich Pier is a 15-20 minute walk along the shoreline. A sea view room is a must. Check in was swift. The rooms are bright, modern and spacious. The rooms and ensuite bathrooms are very clean. Everything felt safe during COVID-19. I had an issue with the shower but this was dealt with very quickly and efficiently by the hotel staff. Breakfast was great with a good choice which had to be pre-ordered the night before. The breakfast room overlooks the sea with amazing views. Hotel is on the expensive side but taking everything in to account I would recommend and definitely return.

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights mid August as we had been looking for a quiet place to visit due to the current situation. The location is very good and we had booked a sea view room which was certainly worth it for the beautiful scenery. We had our bikes with us and were able to store them in the hotel which was a great bonus.
The hosts are very welcoming and all staff were very friendly and hard working, we ate in the hotel the three nights as there was nothing open in the centre of the village. The menu is tapas style that I believe is in place due to COVID, the food was ok but not a huge selection to choose from so quite repetitive, hopefully this will improve as the COVID situation improves.
This is a lovely hotel that we will certainly visit in the future.

Hi Jack Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review, I am sorry you found the menu a bit repetitive, and we since have been trying to add specials most nights, but it is as you say more to do with a result of COVID and our staffing situation, which we do hope will improve sooner rather than later for everyone. We are luckier than most as we are open, so we do try to be grateful. So glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back next time. Kind Regards Greg, Gill & Team xx

We were looking for somewhere quiet for this year and found the Royal to be just right.

We booked for 6 nights and we can’t fault our stay there. We had a long journey to get there but as soon as we arrived we were greeted warmly and all CoVid implementations were explained.

Booking sheet for breakfast was a nice touch, we know buffets aren’t allowed at the moment, and we placed our orders for the following day making a reasonable section from what you would expect from a hotel breakfast.

We had 3 evening meals at the hotel restaurant (the other 3 nights we walked down the road). It was a nice touch to have a tapas style menu. Portions were just about the right size for us, you’d pay the same sort of price at a restaurant elsewhere.

Our room was on the second floor looking out over the water and to the Isle of Bute. We would sit in our room sometimes just looking out over the water and read. We especially liked the lounge area too, most evenings we would sit in the front room in one of the seated areas chatting with other residents. We felt safe with the social distancing measures put in place, these were explained when we checked in and also asked to use common sense whilst staying there.

Staff would regularly check in on us and chat which was really nice, making recommendations for drinks and places to visit during our stay.

Overall we can’t fault our stay there and would thoroughly recommend it to our friends.
