My daughter and I found the room comfortable, but the smokers tended to congregate just below, and the smoke rose through the open window, which is not good for my asthma. It might be nady to situate the smoking area away from close to rooms on the first floor. The road passes by for the bridge, which can be noisy; but the service was friendly and the rooms good value. I would add a half mark for GOOD. if there were one.

The staff make this hotel ! ... Very outdated ... needs a serious make over ! Rooms are small, dark, dreary & cold ! .. However views from the room are beautiful... The full Irish breakfast menu is very good, tasty, well presented and plentiful, However If you prefer the Continental breakfast then your options are limited .. certain cereals, yogurt, tinned grapefruit & orange juice, The breakfast room staff were so helpful and pleasant, they really couldn't do enough for us .. Breakfast served from 8.30am to 10.30am, We didn't get to sample the evening menu, The Hotel itself is very central, a great location with customer car park directly across the road, All in all it was below our expectations, but our brilliant weekend on the island itself made up for our accommodation disappointment.

Stayed one night and had a great time.
Spectacular view from our room of the Achill coastline.
The staff were extra helpful particularly the receptionist who gave us useful information about the island.
The pleasing aspect of my stay was the choice of having plaice for my breakfast.
Being a fish lover this made my day.
I would highly recommend the Achill Sound Hotel for a memorable stay.
We will certainly go back.

We stayed here for two nights . The ensuite to the room could do with up dating. The room looked out on a dirty run down building with open silage bales spilled around the yard Wouldn't stay here again reception was frostly, got the feeling the owners were very religious a few religious pieces in the hotel. Been a single parent with children would have been fronded upon or they didn't like outsiders. Could be here all nite if I was to guess. The bar was empty on a Saturday nite.. We went down to Joise mcloughlins pub and it was packed . Arrived back to the hotel at 23.00, and the doors were locked. We knocked on the door and was let in. Felt like I had done something wrong, it was like sneaking back home without the parents noticing drink on my breath. Breakfast was just ok, if you call dripping in grease nice!! Checking out I paid. No thank you nothing nice to say. Kids sat in reception until I got the rest of the bags. When I returned there was no one to be seen in reception, no thanks once they got their money they were no where to be seen. Very disappointing!!

We cycled on the great "Greenway" from Westport to Achill. We really enjoyed the cycle but it was mostly against a strong wind and the last couple of km were in driving rain. We hadn't booked accommodation in Achill and it was getting late when we saw a sign for this hotel. We didn't care what this hotel was like. We needed heat and shelter and we got it in abudence.
The hotel is in a great location for cyclists, tired after a long cycle from Westport. just across the bridge into Achill. We were soaked through and barely registered the rather dated exterior.
We were quickly looked after, our bycles put safely into a storage area and up to a basic, rather small room with a very comfy bed. The bed had old fashioned wool blankets and spotless crisp sheets, a real novelty and was very comfortable. The hot shower was fab. The bathroom small. The dinner was ok but served by a lovely man, the owner. The hotel is run by a family who seem to do everything. When we were eating extra heat was put in our room and we were asked if we needed clothes dried. We did.
This hotel felt 5 stars to us. It isn't but it is great value.
