Paid $15 cash, a night with breakfast for a fan room with free wifi and TV. Good central yet quiet location with basic swimming pool (undercover and no sunbeds) Hotel cost considerably more online so just turn up on arrival - they have a lot of rooms and had plenty of availability just after Christmas at this price! you can easily walk to Copan ruins (approx 20-25 minutes walk) or get a tuk tuk from here. Central square 5 minutes walk. Rooms are a bit dated but shower was hot and powerful, bed was comfy and everything worked and was clean.
If Posada Belssy is available I agree for the price this is about best option/value in town. However Posada del Belssy had overbooked when I arrived, so was turned away although had booked with them in advance so be aware of this...
I arrived in Copan Ruinas directly from Guatemala City where not so many people spoke or understood English (I do not speak Spanish at all), so one can imagine my pleasant surprise when I heard a Mar Jenny receptionist speaking GOOD English. He was not the only one: his colleagues and the owner, Don Saul, could fluently communicate in English. Moreover, Don Saul, his son and other people from the hotel staff have managed to create a comfortable family atmosphere. They all are pleasant interlocutors, and they are ready to help and to give an advice, when needed. Not to mention hotel amenities alone (clean room on the second floor with a pool just outside it, hot water, air conditioner), everything taken together made me feel positive. If someone wishes to enjoy not only the picturesque town itself and the famous Mayan ruins nearby, Mar Jenny is the right place.
We were brought here by a Mototaxi driver when we were looking at options... more about him later.
This is hotel is located three or four blocks from the central square. We looked at several rooms before deciding on a corner room on the second floor that offered us our own semi-private sitting area and and two walls with windows. The rooms are not big, but they are comfortable. They were very clean and the washrooms fine too. We had hot water as well and could have paid more for A/C if we wanted it, but not needed. The hotel itself is nice, rooms open to a central open court area. There is a pool and a couple of nice sitting areas on the third level. Wifi was really fast and a available from our room. When we were there, there could not have been more than two other rooms occupied so the place was really quiet. We really enjoyed this place and although basic, for the price it was probably one of the best we had stayed in for the price range. Breakfast was also included in the price and consisted of the typical Honduran breakfast with ok coffee.
The person who brought us to the hotel is named Darwin, this man is no good. He is very pushy and tries to make you feel bad if you purchase any tours from anyone but him. He gets a commission for bringing people to attractions and hotels. Avoid him... he put us in a very awkward position over a horse riding tour we hired through a different person. He yelled at the person (our guide) when the guide arrived to pick us up. This was after he told us that our guide was really shady, likely high on drugs and not likely to show up and that we would not be happy with the trip... furthest from the truth, the guide, Luis, was fantastic. We purposefully avoided Darwin from that point forward and would not book tours through the hotel because Darwin would be involved. If not for Darwin, this hotel would been awarded 5 stars from us.
We spend one night in Copan and stayed at Mar Jenny. I check price of all hotels in the area and this seemed to be the best value for us. $35 a night - breakfast included, wifi, pool, private parking. Rooms are small but the one we were in had 2 full sizes beds. A/C worked great, TV's are small but sufficient, our 5 year old had no complaints and had disney JR. I found the hotel very charming. Pool was right outside of our room. It was small but nice and good for a quick dip. The have a third leaves with hammocks were you can relax as well. Everything is close - we drove her but left our car at the hotel and took mototaxi's everywhere. Anywhere you want to go is 10 lps per person (less than .50). This is a nice convenient hotel for travel who want to see the sight, are on a budget but still need some extra amenities. I would stay here again.
Was approached by a guy straight out the bus. We were weary at first, but finally his insistence to show us the room won over and satisfied with it, we took it. 15USD for a double with private bathroom and hot water, a pool and a good location just a couple blocks away from Parque Central made this a pretty good deal. Added bonuses were the rooftop chillout area and the German bar Sol de Copan right next door.
