This is the third time we have stayed at the Agriturismo and every time it gets better.
Sandro and his family are very warm and welcoming, always trying to make us feel at home.
The location is nicely tucked away in the Tuscan hills with plenty of sunshine and peaceful, about 10km from the town centre of Pistoia.
The swimming pool has a very nice view over the village and Pistoia.
The house 'La Cascia' we stayed in, has plenty of space (two bathrooms, three bedrooms). Outside there's a big wooden bench where we enjoyed our breakfast and dinner moments.
Other plus points are free wifi and laundry facilities.
We will definitely be back for another holiday and to see my dear friends.
We loved staying at The Millhouse- Molino di Nelle. It was quiet and secluded and right next to a river. The children could play and be loud without disturbing anyone. This was one of my husband's favourite places in all of Italy as it was away from the crowds and amongst the trees. There was a lovely path through the forest that I jogged along a couple of times and a fireplace next to the river that we enjoyed sitting around. There is a little area in the sitting room set up for young children with a sweet little table and chairs and some toys and colouring books. This made the children feel at home at once. Sandro, his sister and their mother were very warm and welcoming and Sandro was very generous with his time and kindly introduced my Cheese-making husband to some local cheese makers. We loved the area around the villa too. We celebrated our youngest son's 2nd birthday in the tiny church playground in the nook of a hairpin turn on the mountain road just below Barbicaio- it is incredibly picturesque in this region and we enjoyed our time there immensely. The pool at Barbicaio has incredible views. This place is run by a lovely family providing accommodation which is excellent value for money in a beautiful location.
This was our first trip to Italy and we visited Venice, Tuscany, Cinque Terre and Rome. We loved it all, but Agriturismo Barbicaio in Tuscany was our favorite spot! It was a respite from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. The property was gorgeous! You can hear the birds in the morning, and the church bells during the day. But now an annoying bell, just a gentle soothing sound. Since there were only two of us we stayed at apartment La Cascia. It was a wonderful setup and can accommodate more than two people. It had two bedrooms. The view of the city of Pistoia from the balcony was spectacular! Actually, the view from all the rooms were wonderful. We walked over to their other property,Mulino di Nelle, and it was very beautiful there too.
We also enjoyed the town of Saturnana and the city of Pistoia. The center piazza during sunset was beautiful! If you want to get a feel for the "real" Italy, I highly recommend Agriturismo Barbicaio.
The Orlandini family are genuinely warm and kind people. Sandro was so helpful. The GPS on my phone was not working and we were getting lost a lot, but Sandro came to our rescue and let us borrow his GPS. It helped us immensely! He also gave us recommendations of places to see in the area. You can take the train from Pistoia to Florence and be there in 40 minutes. Lucca is a short drive too. But our favorite thing to do was hanging out at Agritursmo Barbicaio!
I would highly reccommend this place to everyone!
Sandro and his family at Agriturismo Barbicaio
are great hosts.
We arrived late and Sandro was very helpful in giving us directions.
We traveled with 3 teenage boys and the little house is exactly what we wanted - a place we can feel the experience of Toscana - like the locals live it.
The house had a laundry room and a full kitchen so we could cook our meels.
The creek and forest next to the house were a great place to take a walk or a jog in the morning before driving to Florence or Pisa.
