From the warm welcome upon arriving at their beautiful bed and breakfast, to her engaging stories and genuine interest and care in your well being, Liz and her family make your stay at the Pebble the most memorable part of your trip to Halifax. Located in a quiet neighbourhood near the water and just a short walk from Dalhousie University and Kings College, there is nothing that has not been looked after by Liz with extreme care. From the lovely room decor and high class amenities to the delicious homemade breakfasts that are served to you in the cozy dining room; Liz goes above and beyond to ensure that your needs are fully meet and your expectations are exceeded! Thank you Liz for another wonderful stay from my whole family to yours.
A high end B&B with charming hosts (Liz and David) who hold themselves to a very high standard of hospitality. The rooms are lovely, recently renovated. Breakfast is very nice, customised if you have dietary restrictions.
Liz is a very engaging hostess: draws you in and gets to know you intimately, which for us is a huge part of staying in a B&B (the getting-to-know-your-hosts part).
Very lovely large house, view of the Bay and a well appointed sitting room to relax in. They have their liqueurs and port out for you to enjoy, extraordinarily generous. Liz also makes it clear that you can use her kitchen to brew tea, essentially her attitude is that it's your house as well. Full of advice of what to see in the city and where to eat. She can get you reservations at the good restaurants that tend to be booked up. We took her suggestion for 2 of our dinners during our 3 days (one in Halifax and one in Peggy's Cove) and were not disappointed. The third we did not (was an impromptu night out) and regretted it.
The O'Carrolls have been in this house for 25 years and have clearly been constantly investing in it. Liz makes up the room every day (you'd be surprised at how few B&Bs still do this; we are B&B veterans and have stayed at dozens over the years in the US and Canada...)
Would stay here again in a heartbeat. We stayed here 3 days (longest stay during our NS road trip) and no regrets.
Staying at the pebble for our first time was truly a blessing. For ease, let us list some of the important items upfront. The home is beautiful, beds are comfortable, luxurious bathrooms, breakfasts were local, fresh and incredibly delicious (we are foodies - you can’t get breakfast like this other places) and the neighborhood is adorable / perfectly located for visiting Halifax and other popular sights. Our room also had water views. The showers were a treat, with plenty of space, great water pressure, and high-end Molten & Brown products. Our room was also refreshed each day with fresh pressed linens like at a five star hotel. It quickly became clear to us how much love and care has gone into both the home itself and also the experience of staying there. We enjoyed the social areas out on the patio in the morning and in the living room at night beside the complimentary bar, browsing through a wide selection of cool books.
Now for some of the intangibles. My wife and I are pretty social, which Liz must have picked up on quickly having hosted many people over the years. So we got to know her and David on the first day over some homemade scones / jam and freshly brewed tea. For me at least, sometimes I’ll shy away from chatting too much, but I’m so glad we didn’t. We left the pebble feeling like we found a home in Halifax and having made two new friends. I’m not joking when I say my wife and I were both pleasantly surprised when we found out our ferry was cancelled and we would be staying another night at the pebble. There are so many subtle touches about this place it’d be hard to express it all in words, but in short we highly recommend it for anyone and hope to visit again in the future!
the best B&B ever, everything is perfect, I loved every single detail, starting from the room, bathroom, breakfast (was delicious), we had a nice conversation every morning, with other guests, and Eliz, the host, she is a gem :-)
We recently stayed at this incredible B&B in Halifax. It was a perfect stay. Our suite on the top floor was so comfortable with the bed of your dreams that I hardly wanted to get out of. The bed linen was perfectly pressed, I need this bed at home. Loved sitting in one of the two cozy chairs by the window in the morning, watching the fog lift over the harbour as the sun was coming up. The aromas of breakfast lured us downstairs to the kitchen where Liz and David were preparing breakfast. There is a dining room where guests are served but we were even luckier and had breakfast with Liz at the dining table in their gorgeous kitchen. We felt like family. Breakfast itself was a first class affair, yogurt and fruits, poached eggs with smoked salmon, asparagus and tangy hollandaise, French press coffee, all served in their unique blue porcelain. The house is surrounded by beautiful landscape. It’s beautiful everywhere you look.
The House is located in a gorgeous neighbourhood by the water in a convenient location from which to visit everywhere in Halifax. Liz and David are the perfect hosts and I highly recommend a stay at The Pebbles. I would rank the stay as 10 out of 10.
