The place itself is a nice location, very private and surrounded by tall trees and a view of the nearby mountains. The restaurant area was a nice place to hang out with great views and the food was pretty good too. The only downside was the room itself. They could do with a bit of an update, felt a bit like going back to the 70’s. And it was quite dark where they were too, located further down the hill and in the shade of the trees. People say it’s very good for birders but I didn’t see too many myself. We were just passing through really from the Pacific coast to the Caribbean coast but some people stop here for the hiking. The good news is if you like tennis there’s a full indoor court here and the owner is an avid player himself. I would recommend this place but it would be even better if some money was spent on the rooms and pool area which wasn’t very inviting. But the view, the food and restaurant area was pretty nice. And the insects noise at sunset was totally amazing, I’ve never heard insects make so much noise.
beautiful birds, lovely helpful owner. I was over charged by my taxi by a large amount so he insisted that the driver come over and give me the extra back which the driver did. . great but short trails with lots of birds, stunning river flowing, pool needed cleaned while i was there (in my opinion), fruit trees attract very colourful birds... comfortable rooms and very clean. The bed was good, shower was basic but hot. Breakfast and dinner is served. Dinner was very good and tasty but has to be ordered or organised in the morning. The setting is beautiful.
If you love birding, this could be the place for you! Nice rooms, but nothing fancy. A few updates would be nice. Ceiling fan, but no A.C. outstanding food served on a deck overlooking fruit feeders. Very nice service and owner was very congenial.Large enclosed tennis courts and beautiful pool. Hot tub was cool. You can be greeted by a common paraque as you walk to breakfast. Honeycreepers abound. Many beautiful species waiting to be observed.
As described in previous reviews this hotel has a great location for seeing birds, set in extensive grounds. But the previous proprietress seems to have left, and the remaining owner has let the place badly go: you would not go near the filthy pool, worn out hammocks are threadbare, the food is tinned, the staff’s attention is cursory, etc. The shabbiness does not justify the price and he seems to be just milking the previous glories. But the bedrooms were OK, beds comfortable, bathrooms functional, and the grounds unspoilt
I left this lodge feeling extremely grateful. My room was cozy and cool with a deck close enough to hear the river. The pool was tranquil and perfect for bird watching. The owner, Carlos, has put effort into sustainable sourcing, including a solar powered jacuzzi (which takes a while to warm up, but I personally prefer environmental-minedness over instant hot water). Most importantly, Carlos was extremely kind, attentive, and went out of his way to make sure his guests were comfortable and prepared to enjoy all that the Chirripo area has to offer. The cloud forest is only 20 minutes away, and while Talari Lodge is near the main road (making it convenient for dining, etc.), you would never know it because the lodge it close enough to the river to make it feel remote. The birding here is incredible, and I would go back in a heartbeat.
