We only spent 1 night at this fabulous lodge but wished it was more.
The room was incredible - it was the lowest price room they had but there were still plenty of special touches. It was roomy and the bathroom was spacious - all of the towels and linen were good quality. It contained everything we needed & we had a great sleep!
The breakfast was wonderful - plenty of choice & everything was lovely & fresh.
The dinner was also quite nice but as it was a set menu my only comment would be that the offer of an alternate meal for us fussy eaters would have been appreciated.
We went out in the evening for a husky safari which was incredible. No northern lights but the gorgeous huskies, their amazing enthusiasm, the knowledgeable guide, the exciting ride through the dark snowy wilderness was more than enough. It was pricey but worth it. One thing that was very odd though was that we had to provide a deposit to use the lodges headlamps. Considering that the room, the dinner & the safari were all quite expensive I actually found this a little bit insulting.
My only other suggestion if you are visiting would be that if you are anything other than an average size make sure you take your own snow gear as the options available from the lodge are very limited.
The staff were lovely and went out of their way to assist when we had an issue with our hire car. Also prior to our stay, all emails and questions were answered promptly.
In Lapland there are an awful lot of tourist traps and gimmick hotels. This is certainly not the case at Beana Laponia. It is an adult only 11 room hotel set in the middle of nowhere! We had a beautiful corner suite with our own sauna. We did snow mobile, reindeer safari but the absolute highlight was the husky safari. We set off in the morning and stopped for a campfire lunch, just amazing.
The food was excellent and the staff incredibly friendly. It was just perfect!
There are not enough superlatives to describe our experience here .
Delightful , unpretentious hotel where kindness and customer service encompasses everything.
Our room with en-suite sauna and view out to the snowy woods was just the best with the most comfortable bed and fabulous fat pillows .
The food and service were exceptional again with a lack of pretentiousness yet superb quality and choice .
The highlight of our trip was the husky trail
taken on a beautiful , clear morning at minus 38 degrees . An experience that I will never forget . That along with the blessing of seeing a spectacular show of the Northern Lights on my Birthday made it the best ever .
What an absolute joy to be here .
Thank you to everyone involved in making it so special
This was our first trip to Finland and one we will remember forever.
Someone once said if you buy an experience then you can relive it through your memories and this is an experience we will never forget.
Starting with the people, the staff in the hotel made us feel so welcome and the guides are knowledgeable and passionate about the dogs and the environment and share that with you. Hard not to be infected by their enthusiasm.
Activites are very well thought through to give you an exciting experience and a real appreciation of the environment and their significance in Finnish culture. Ask lots of questions - the guides and experts that you meet have so much to tell you.
Despite the activities being new and different for us, for example driving a husky sled or snowmobile to snowshoe walking and cross-country skiing, the guides talk you through and explain how to use the equipment and how to keep safe, reassuring you that you are in expert hands.
A real highlight for us were the huskies. They are incredible animals and the authenticity of the place was that these are not just safari huskies, we are helping them train for their main purpose, which is to race. They are friendly, approachable and very much loved by their handlers and you can't help but fall a little bit in love with them. You will know each of your huskies by name. They love to run and run and run and it is a privilege and amazing to experience.
Equipment- my one piece of advice is listen to your guide! They live and work in these conditions. The hotel will supply you with outer gear, an all-in-one suit, snow boots, woollen socks (have 2 or 3 of your own as well), mittens and balaclava. I would recommend layers, ideally breathable fabrics, the best being merino wool. The more layers you have the better. Hats and a buff all good too. You can wear ski trousers and jackets under your outer suit - slimline it is not, warm it is!
The hotel has a cosy warm family feel because that is what it is. Mulla, her family and her team create an atmosphere that feels like home. The restaurant menu is simple and delicious, plenty of choice at breakfast and although not extensive, a reasonable wine list.
We were on full board but this does not include alcohol. An average bottle of wine would cost about €49.
We had a a sauna in our room, which was a real treat. There is a public sauna and hot tub too which you can book privately if you wish. Our bed was very cosy and comfortable. The bar feels like a lounge with a roaring fire to warm you up. Pretty much every activity starts from the hotel which is just so convenient. The only exception is the reindeer safari which is a short ride away at a family run reminder farm.
The aurora borealis is often the reason people come to Finnish Lapland but it is not guaranteed and difficult to predict. We were lucky to see them one evening when we were night skiing with our guide Toni and yes they were magical!
Thank you Mulla, we hope to be back to enjoy it all again with you and the team.
A fine hotel in an excellent wilderness.
The hotel amenities and room comfort leave nothing to be desired
A delicious breakfast and fine dinner was freshly prepared by an excellent cook. The service staff served the meals promptly and courteously.
The entire hotel was spotless and very up to date.
In the seven days that I was here, there was a new adventure just outside the door, snowmobile tour, reindeer safari, the northern lights teepee, hiking with skis, or even snowshoes.
Every piece of equipment was in excellent working condition from the extensive clothing to the gloves and snow boots.
And the absolute highlight is the dog sled trip - preferably every day!
Many thanks to Anniina and Toni who let us have an unforgettable trip.
We will gladly come again.
