Clan Cottages is beautifully located on a loch with nice views and in a quiet location, yet only a few minutes from Oban. We were in a two-room cottage, Clan McDougall, which was spacious and at 995 pounds for a week we though was value for money for two bedrooms. But the price should make it clear that this is not 'luxury' accommodation as one or two reviewers have suggested (and is also claimed on the company's website). In truth we thought the facility both inside and out were a little tired and needed a bit of sprucing up. An example in our cottage was a poor selection of crockery and glassware. Relatively minor quibbles though. Clan Cottages is definitely worth considering if you're looking for somewhere rural, quiet and spacious.
The Clan Cottages are just so peaceful, only 10 minutes from Oban but far enough out to be heavenly quiet. There are only 5 cottages altogether, we stayed in number 2. The cottage itself is superb for any type of holiday, everything you can think of is included, bedding, towels, and a fully equipped kitchen. Our cottage had 1 bedroom and bathroom. A lovely mezzanine floor with lounge and tv. also a lounge downstairs with a dining table. Plenty of room for the 2 of us. Views to die for, the loch and fields full of wildlife right outside our door. Mary the owner made us very welcome. I would thoroughly recommend Clan Cottages for a little Scottish get away.
Our only regret is that we could not stay longer. We arrived late in the evening and the owner was very gracious and happily showed us to our cabin. We stayed in Cottage 5 which has two full bathrooms, living room, kitchen and two bedrooms.Bedroom 1 has two twins the other with a Queen/Full and ensuite bathroom. The kitchen is well appointed and they even left a bottle of wine out for us to enjoy! This cabin also has a back patio with table and chairs along a stream which is a very nice plus. Very quiet, beautiful location. Everything was clean, new and in good working condition. Plenty of hot water and the water pressure was good. This is a wonderful place to stay if you are exloring the Oban area and are planning on taking a ferry to the Isle of Mull. It takes abour 10 minutes to be into downtown Oban without traffic.
We stayed for 3 nights in Clan MacDonald No. 5. It is a two bedroom unit with 2 full bathrooms a good size dining kitchen and comfortable lounge. The units appear to have been built about 10 years ago to a very high standard. Lovely Quaint thatched roofs and exceptionally well equipped interiors. Very comfortable beds. Excellent Wi-Fi reception and lovely and warm. We were very warmly received by the owner who explained everything to us. The area information available on site was the best I have seen. It is in an absolutely charming area next to a loch and river. It was exceptionally quiet on our visit although 3 of the bungalows were occupied. Owners are obviously nature lovers as they always seem to make sure that the birds and ducks have plenty of food. An exceptionally fantastic place and will definitely spend more relaxing leisure time at Clan Cottages when time and the need arises. Joking aside, I nearly did not write this very deserving review as I was worried about there being any room left for me when I wanted to book again. I was more than impressed by the effort that John & Mary had put in to developing this fantastic hidden Facility. Well Done!
The cottage was perfect for us! Staying in "our" cottage for 2 nights was not long enough. Had we not wanted to travel throughout Scotland we would have gladly stayed the cottages for our entire trip. The bedrooms were very comfortable, the kitchen and living areas gave us plenty of room to stretch out and the bathrooms were among the largest we had in any of the places we stayed in Scotland or even back here in the US. The views of the loch were breathtaking. For 3 days we felt like we were living in Scotland instead of just vacationing there. I don't think any of us will forget this wonderful place. Needless to say...highly recommended!
