Many families have fond memories of visiting the south-central Wisconsin city of Wisconsin Dells — no matter whether those flashbacks go back thirty years or less than 12 months. Named for the Dells of the Wisconsin River, which features a beautiful glacially-formed gorge and distinctive sandstone formations, the area truly has something for visitors of all ages; it's no wonder it's been such a popular vacation spot for so many decades now.

Melanie F's City Tips

  • Be sure to look into hotel package options when booking your stay.
  • Be sure to bring sunscreen if visiting at the hottest time of the year, as many of Wisconsin Dells' activities are outside.
  • Although undeniably beautiful during the winter months, Wisconsin Dells offers families far more activity options during the spring and summer.

If you're bringing the kiddos to the Wisconsin Dells, a day at Noah's Ark Water Park is a must. Nicknamed the 'Waterpark Capital of the World,' it's not only the biggest water park in the area, it's the biggest in the country — sitting pretty on 70 acres of land! Featuring four children's water play sections, bumper boats, a jaw-dropping 4-D Movie Theater, two wave pools, and a variety of dining options — there's more than enough here to entertain kids and adults alike.

More than just a water park, Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park is like a magical voyage into the world of mythology. Consisting of two major outdoor areas: Zeus' Playground and Neptune's Water Kingdom; as well as two indoor areas: The Parthenon and Medusa's indoor water park, it really doesn't matter if the weather is cooperating when you pay a visit here. Plus, with rollercoasters, go-kart tracks, a rock-climbing wall, and other fun rides to explore, you'll never want to leave — handy then that Mt. Olympus also offers lodging!

One of the most enchanting spots in all of Wisconsin Dells is Witches Gulch, with its narrow slot canyon and sandstone caverns. It's beautiful and spooky, and although part of the 'quiet side of the Dells,' kids are sure to love this spot as well. Don't forget a camera to capture one of the more fascinating views of nature available in the area!

One of the most fun ways to explore the Dells for over 70 years now is with the Dells Army Ducks. These guided tours will carry the whole family away aboard a super cool, six-wheel drive World War II-era Army Duck! Among the sites you'll explore on this unique land-and-water excursion are some of the area's top highlights, from 14,000 year-old sandstone rock formations to Sugar Bowl Island to Lake Delton, and more.
