Points of Interest

1. Salmon Counting Station

The Nez Perce Tribe and the National Marine/Fisheries Service operate a Chinook Salmon counting station on Lake Creek here.

If you find employees here they will update you on the fish count and answer any questions.

Lake Creek flows under the Warren Wagon Road bridge and joins Summit Creek to form the Secesh River here.

3. Warren Wagon & Josephine Lake Road

FR 316 is the road to Josephine Lake.

High clearance vehicles are recommended for this road, but automobiles have also successfully made the drive to the trail head. It is about 3 miles uphill to the trail head.

The road is narrow, rocky, and rough.

4. Josephine Lake Trailhead

The trail and trail head had just been reworked when I was here and no signs had been posted, but it is a hiking trail. It is about .8 of a mile and 650' of elevation gain to the lake.

There is a turn-around and several parking spaces here. No restroom.

Idaho Fish & Game says there is a small herd of mountain goats in this area, but I have... More

5. Josephine Lake

Elevation: 7400'

About 13 acres of beautiful high mountain lake stocked with golden trout.

Great spot for a picnic.

6. New ATV Trail

About three miles of new ATV trail from here to the Burgdorf Campground.

There are some nice meadows north of the trail about 1/4 mile from this junction.

7. Nethker Creek Trailhead

Elevation: 6250'

The trail starts here and connects with the Bear Pete Trail and Frosty Meadows after 4 miles and about 1750' elevation gain. Scenic views to the south from the trail.

If you go to Frosty Meadows, take plenty of insect repellent.

8. Burgdorf Campground

A fee area with 4 camp sites, tables, fire rings, restroom, and potable water. Current fee is $10 per day.

The Burgdorf area "Camp Host" is located here and usually occupies one of the camp sites.

The sites are suitable for RVs.
