When you visit Siem Reap you can experience the awe and magnitude of the world renowned Angkor Wat which was built in the early 12th century. There are many other Temples to explore, each one having it's own place in history. You can also take a boat tour of the Village on Stilts which is on the edge of Tonle Sap Lake and, perhaps later, kick back and enjoy the hospitality of the Khmer People while having a cool and refreshing drink in Pub Street. Also, there is the Night Markets, many restaurants and street stalls, the Silk Farm and much more which makes for a very enjoyable visit when in Siem Reap.

Robert W's City Tips

  • Tipping is not necessary however, any small amount given in appreciation for any service, is always well received.
  • Always wear comfortable shoes, a hat and sun screen and take a bottle of water with you when "exploring" the Temples.
  • Having a Tuk Tuk "experience" around the City is great fun however, for those longer drives to the Temples, I have found that it is better to go by Taxi.

Visiting the Lake should be on your itinerary. This lake is mass of water but is very seasonal. A must see, especially during the wet season, when you can go by boat and experience the life style of those people. The villagers are fishermen and dry their "catch" in the hot sun for the markets.

Angkor Wat is on about 200 hectares and according to Coedes, "is a replica of the universe in stone". Surrounded by a moat, you cross by a huge causeway made of sandstone blocks 250 meters long. The galleries of bas-reliefs picture the history of the Khmer Empire. Truly, a "Wonder of the World".
