Christmate11's City Tips

  • - These days, the best way to go from Suvarnabhumi Airport to downtown is to take the Airport Rail Link to either Makkasan or Phaya Thai. - There are 2 major metro system in the city: the BTS ('Skytrain') and the MRT (underground system). There exist option to get a daily or weekly cards. But both systems are separate. - Taxis are cheap in Bangkok. Check that the meter is on. Avoid taxis, which refuse to put their meters on and give you a fare straight away. - Tuk-tuks are fun and typical but they do not go anywhere and tend to be more expensive than regular A/C cabs. - Some cafés & restaurants include a service charge but most do not. Thais will often leave a 20-Baht bill if it is a reasonable meal. If you are a larger group or have ordered more, it is good to leave more for the staff of course.
