I love the DC area

Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia is commonly referred to as Washington or D.C. It is the capital of the United States. Washington, D.C., has a population of about 650k. It is the 23rd-most populous city in the United States. Commuters from the surrounding Maryland and Virginia suburbs raise the city's population to more than one million during the workweek. The Washington metropolitan area, of which DC is a part, has a population of 5.8 million. It is the seventh-largest metropolitan statistical area in the U.S.A. The three branches of the federal government of the United States are in DC, including the Congress, Executive and Supreme Court. Washington is home to many national monuments and museums, which are primarily situated on or around the National Mall. I highly recommend you walk (not drive) around the National Mall because there is much to see here. The city hosts 176 foreign embassies as well as the headquarters of many international organizations, trade unions, non-profit organizations, lobbying groups, and professional associations. I usually visit the DC area at least once a month on business and/or pleasure. I love the city. I usually stay downtown if I can get affordable hotel pricing. Often than not the downtown DC hotels are too expensive so I will stay in Arlington near the DCA airport where there are many lower cost hotels. I usually take the metro to get around, because downtown traffic and Arlington traffic is pretty congested. I love so many DC hotels and restaurants. Check out my many reviews of hotels and restaurants in downtown DC and Arlington. Keep in mind like any other major city that downtown hotels and restaurants are going to be more expensive than those that are further away from downtown. DC restaurants for example charge 10% tax. There is a tradeoff here. Despite the many problems of the local DC Metro I recommend you take the DC metro to get around because driving is too congested. I usually take Amtrak train or flights from EWR or JFK to DCA. DC flights from LGA are usually more expensive. I never took a bus down.
