We are planning to stay for 4 nights. We do not want to eat all of the 4 nights at the casa. Is it possible to drive to Pinhao in the evening or is it a scary adventure?
So sorry it took so long. You can drive down to Pinao in a trice - not scary, but of course you have to be careful, especially if you have wine with dinner!
We ate at the Casa every night because we loved it so much - home cooking style and beautifully paired - red, white, rose, and ports that the owner sources from local vineyards.
Hope you enjoyed your stay - if you’ve already been.
You can definitely drive to pinhao or even to DOC (if you can make a reservation). Not scary at all. The drive is short to pinhao (~10min) and although the road is narrow and curvy in some sections, I would say most people would not have a problem with it. We only drove during the day, but I would be confortable doing it at night as well. You can always drive slower. I would say don't let driving restrict your douro trip, unless you're a beginner driver. Driving is the best way to go places there.
Sure, you could. I wouldn't, though. We were three nights there in May and never wanted to leave. Food isn't Michelin, but very good, staff charming and attentive, and the views from the all-glass dining room are sublime.
The roads are a little arduous but do able however there's not much to eat in Pinhao. I would make the trek one night to Castas e Pratos. It's 30 min away but worth the drive.
The food is really good at Chancleiros tho.
Of course you can! There is no reason why not! But just a piece of advice, once you are there you will not want to leave. It is a MAGICAL place!
We loved the food and ambiance at Visconde, and would stay there for dinner, especially if you are going to enjoy some wine. A taxi would be the ticket if you want to go to Pinhao. You might want to check out the town before making a decision. You can decide about dinner at Visconde at breakfast.
Yes you can do it. The food in la Casa is good but 4 days .......
Yes it's easy to drive down to pinhao, about ten minutes. The road is slightly twisty but not too narrow.
Possible to drive ok. But we found it difficult to justify eating out when the in house food was so good and varied.
Roads are narrow in places, but there is no traffic of note, so no real danger.
Hope that helps
Not really - about 10 min drive down the hill. No lights on road as not in a built up area but wouldn't imagine it would be a problem as very little traffic on road.
we are plannig to stay for 4 nights wenot eat allthe 4 nights at
