Hi - I'm planning to stay here one night for a concert at the Consol Energy Center. Is anyone familiar with that walk? I'm a woman traveling alone and wonder about the walk late at night. Thanks for your help!
Too far to walk - but the hotel has a courtesy bus which would take you to the venue and pick you up at a pre-arranged time
The Holiday Inn has (had) a great shuttle to places downtown. We took it to a Pirates game. Not sure if they would do this one but I would give them a call. Really helpful.
I've made the walk dozens of times. It involves crossing the 10th Street Bridge and going through the Armstrong Tunnel (which has a narrow, but safely divided pedestrian walkway). At a brisk pace, the walk can be done in about 15 minutes. There's nothing dangerous or sketchy about the area at night, but that being said, as a woman walking by yourself in an unfamiliar area (and the tunnel isn't pretty when walking), you likely won't feel secure. I would suggest taking the free hotel shuttle to the Consol Energy Center. The hotel's shuttle service will probably be done for the day by the time the concert is over. I'd suggest using Uber or Lyft to get back. Traffic is very congested around the Consol before and after concerts, so you might want to walk a little piece away from the Consol in the direction of downtown, perhaps by the nearby DoubleTree Hotel, to request Uber or Lyft. If you don't have one of these apps, download the Uber one (if you have a friend that has it, they can text you a code that will get you for your first ride as a new customer for free), as I wouldn't suggest relying on getting a taxi in Pittsburgh -- it's note that easy, but Uber is reliable.
I wouldn't say that it's particularly dangerous at night, particularly with a lot of people around after a concert, but it's not a short walk and there's a lot of road work being done in the area. I would ask about the shuttle that the hotel offers or use Uber or a cab.
Defiantly need to uber over there but I believe the hotel offers a shuttle service to console , and I don't recommend walking by yourself at night you would have to walk over the bridge ...
I wouldn't do the walk at night, especially alone. It's a little sketchy during the day and becomes dangerous at night.
I am sorry I can't comment on the walk. I have stayed a couple of time for business and was in bed early. Might want to consider an uber..
I would agree with the others! Take advantage of the shuttle. The staff is wonderful. I did not feel comfortable walking in that area.
