Hello,

Dolphins are always around however the whale migration north is roughly from May to July then back again you will see them around Sept Oct. Hope that helps.

Whale season is always amazing in this area!

Hi John,

The best time is from late May to early November.....if you are planning to go on a whale/ dolphin cruise, we can recommend The Moonshadow......we have no affiliation with any business in Port Stephens, our recommendations is purely from our own experience, we love the area and visit often from Sydney.

Hope this helps you to enjoy your holiday.

We visited in December so missed the whales.

May to September the whales move north and from September to October they move south.

A lot of the tours will offer another tour if you don't see anything.

The dolphins live in the Bay, they don't migrate from the area. So you have a pretty good chance of seeing them.

If I planned it again, I would try October, with the chance of seeing a mother whale and her calf.

I'd also make sure it's not school holidays!

I suggest you contact Anchorage directly or Port Stephens information centre. Check for their email address on the web. JudyF
