Im looking to get to Stud farm from the Grand Canal Hotel in downtown Dublin with public transportation. Any suggestions?
We took the train from Dublin. There is a free shuttle from the station in Kildare which makes a couple of stops in town and also stops at the Stud. The driver was friendly and helpful. He tipped us about a direct train which made our return trip a delight.
There are a few options. The bus would be the least expensive. They offer a direct route to the area and then a shuttle runs to the farm. I would suggest using the cityscapes bus service. You can find one of their representatives on about every corner. They run the yellow hop on hop off buses. I believe the day costs $45.00 ($40.00 if you've already bought another service they offer). They pick you up at their main stop take you to the stud farm, which as a horse person I highly recommend. After the farm you go to Kilkenny castle and then to the outlet mall for about an hour of shopping. They are a new company ( just a couple months old) so the buses are brand new Mercedes with leather seats, bathrooms and coffee and tea on board. My mother and I went last Friday, we were the only ones on the bus! It was a private tour! The driver, Andrew was great. He let us customize the time we spent at each stop to what we wanted. It's a bit more than the city bus but well worth it and you see so much more. If you go tell Andrew the ladies from Oklahoma sent you.
