Would you recommend this restaruant for a romantic birthday dinner for an out of town New Yorker visiting?
I would ask for one of the window tables upstairs as it will be quieter and more secluded.
It is possible. I am an ex-New Yorker myself. You would want to be upstairs and request a location away from the middle. There are some booths and alcoves that might accommodate your need. Call in the reservation and let them know your concerns. The staff is excellent and very responsive.
Not really. It's noisy and usually crowded. A lot of the tables are very close together, so there's no real privacy. Go for the food, not the ambience
Hard for me to say, we had lunch and sat outside as it was a pleasant sunny day. If regular patrons say go for a window table upstairs then do just that
No. Do the Erie Cafe or Chicago Cut steakhouse. You will think me later.
Both - for romantic dinner ask for a quiet area or better quite table by window !!
I sat in the main dining room which was loud but not too loud. My guest and were able to speak in normal tone. Staff was great by the way.
I don't know - this restaurant can be very noisy. Food is okay -but, yelling across the table and leaving with a headache might not be very romantic. You can take a shot at getting one of the tables upstairs -but, they are not a well kept secret. Might try Nomi's, Pucks, RL Restaurant -or, if you have a lot of coin to spend, Tru is a once and a lifetime experience. (I used to live in Chicago - used to eat in that area a lot).
Yes ...and I agree with the comment above--get a seat by the window overlooking the street, otherwise it's just a good Italian restaurant, but nothing truly memorable.
It's a not a quiet restaurant, so if you're looking for a place where you can talk and drink champagne this is not the place. It is loud and a great place to bring a crowd.
Sure, a table upstairs, on the raised platform near the windows can make for a great, traditional setting for a romantic dinner. There aren't many tables in this section - perhaps 6-8) so be sure to reserve in advance and mention the seating location.
Yes it can be romantic, but upstairs instead of down. It's right downtown, is always full, has outdoor seating, and you would have more of a romantic event upstairs. Of course I agree with the window seating.
