Is there anything nearby walking distance? Like food or shops?
We walked a few blocks from the ranch and had breakfast at the Cottage Restaurant. You can walk a little farther and check out the small shops headed down to the beach. The beach is a small park which is also nice. My wife and I made a loop and returned back to Mission Ranch. The office will have a map to show the eateries. I used Google Maps to walk the loop. Very nice, quiet
Other than the mission, which is close by, I would recommend driving into Carmel. Walking around Carmel is easy and there are many places to eat and shop.
The Carmel Mission is almost next door. Its an historical and very interesting place to visit. We walked to downtown Carmel to visit its many shops and there are many excellent places to eat. The walk takes about 30 minutes through very interesting and beautiful residences.
There is a very nice restaurant on site. Restaurant is independent of hotel but very accommodating and guarantee reservations within the hour.
Not really an easy walk... And few sidewalks.
A decent walk from centre of Carmel - best get a cab ( but it's worth it )
Depends on what you consider to be walking distance. We drove into Carmel from the ranch and it took approx. 5 minutes.
Nothing very close. It's about a mile to the heart of Carmel village, but it's a pleasant walk if you're up to it and not in a rush -- either through quaint historic neighborhoods or via the beach and rocky outcroppings.
There is nothing really close by Mission Ranch. I would rather stay in downtown Carmel where I can walk out the door and be in its midst. It is quaint with little shops and dining, and the beach is a short walk away. Stay someplace like The Coachman's Inn.
It's a fair walk ,but yes . Carmel is small - one square mile .
If you like to walk like us it is close to downtown and we walk there. For going to dinner we take a car.
As noted in previous responses, Carmel has such charming homes and gardens and it is just wonderful walking the streets and looking at them.
