Hippo Boutique Hotel Questions & Answers

Gainesville, Florida

Arriving July 12, leaving July 19, 2017. Two rooms. Traveling with my husband and our two adult daughters. Is this a convenient location and safe neighborhood? We want to do a lot of day trips. Can you find a car and driver to take us to vineyards?

Hello, so sorry for the late reply. I've only just seen the message you sent 3 weeks ago!

I'm not sure about car hire as I've never hired a car on holiday. However, I don't think you will need a car in Cape Town as you have the sightseeing bus, which takes you everywhere! I never went to see the Vineyards, but I'm sure they won't be far out and there are several routes you can choose from on the sightseeing bus.

Cape Town is safe during the day, although you will be approached by beggars, but nothing to worry about as they appear to be harmless and there is plenty of police officers around on the main streets. As Long Street is a main, busy street, it does get quite loud at nights, especially as all the bars are here. I wouldn't go out at night, but then, I don't like to go into town during the night in England either!

Location is convenient as your next to bars, shops, markets, money exchange agencies, banks and the sightseeing bus.

On a scale of 1 to 55 being extremely safe I would give it a 3 1/2 to 4. We did get accosted one night by a homeless person who was selling some crafts he made. He was very friendly and after we talk to him we did not feel unsafe. But I do not believe this is the absolute safest part of Cape Town. If it is just adults you should be fine.

Yes it is safe, you can see Table Mountain from the street. We did the hop on hop off bus and that was really good they also take you to the vineyards.

I would assume you could find a car and driver but it's much more fun on the bus !

It is very convenient for Restaurants. A few right on that street (Ricks Cafe & the Mexican one below the hotel) are great!

You can easily rent a car not too far from there.

Uber is very easy and safe. We used it a lot while in Capetown.

The vineyards are pretty far , as is cape point, hout bay, simons town etc.. Renting a car is easily the best way to explore and enjoy your scenery.

If you end up staying in Simons town, stay at the Mariners Guest house- beautiful.

You can walk to BoKaap and Victoria and Alfred Waterfront from Hippo Boutique. We felt safe enough if you stick to the busier, larger streets.

Hi, we were there last month, very safe area, lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance, and they are able to provide transport with a driver from the hotel, although car rental is a good option, roads are good and easy to navigate around the country. Good luck and enjoy. Richard W

We found it very safe, even at night but the same rule applies to every place you go.Don't go off the beaten track just as you wouldn't do in your own country.

We bought hop-on- hop-off bus tickets, they take you all over CapeTown including Vineyards very very good value for money. You can google them on line before you go.

Hope this helps and enjoy.

There are three restaurants within 5 meters of the main entrance and several within half a block.

As a solo female I felt comfortable and secure in the neighborhood, but stayed close to the restaurants after dark. Daytime I felt totally secure in my person.

The hotel has a wall full of brochures offering a myriad of excursions. Ask the staff and I'm sure they can steer you to a reputable driver and car to take you anyplace you wish.
