Is this not the same event as the Shanghai Circus World?
If it is different, how can I get an advance reservation or an online ticket booking?
The promenade is just that, a promenade which means a walking street. this one happens to be along the river on the Shanghai (not Pudong) side. It will connect to another walking street at its end/beginning.
The two things are completely different. The promenade is a nice place for a stroll or walk. Just have a nice time taking in the sights and enjoying the view.
Two completely different venues/attractions. No need to purchase a ticket for the promenade, which is free to stroll along; for the Shanghai Circus World, tickets are normally available even on the day, unless you are purchasing for a group, in which case buying the tickets in advance is advisable.
Others are correct in saying that Riverside Promenade is really just an area to walk around. It's in Pudong.
Shanghai Circus World is in Puxi, and it is further north. I never tried to book tickets online for the ERA show, but I bought tickets at the door with a friend several years ago, same night of the show, and we were able to get decent seats. The show is long-running and runs frequently, so I would agree with the other reviewer who says you don't need to worry about it selling out.
The promenade is really just a nice area to walk around and see the sights. Tickets are always available so no need to book on line in advance
