only in Male, Maldives for 1 day (off ship) what would you recommend doing?Saturday 6th May'17
Just walk around and discover on your own. No need to get a guide.Hukuru Miskiiy is a must (Old Friday Mosque).
DON'T pay for a walking tour. Our 2 1/4 hour tour for $59 U.S. was 40 minutes long, and the guide had his back to us talking to other members of the group until I called him out on it. He omitted the fish market. You can take pictures outside the mosques, but unless you are Moslem, you cannot enter. The museum was closed. There is one block where you can buy souvenirs at elevated prices, so you must bargain for whatever you think you'll purchase.
Male' is small enough to walk around. You will likely get off the main jetty , walk around the republic square, the main mosque and local market . Walk in wards to where the tourist shops are. and then to the friday mosque area. If u have time , the beach at both ends of the city are nice to relax . Bring an umbrealla. It gets hot. Bring some loose change in USD , so u can go have a drink at a local cafe. Very hard to find a public toilet , so u end up going to a cafe and ordering something at least:)
The fish market , the fruit and Végétale market and Dawn café for the atmosphère .
It is a very small city you need to walk to discover the city with it is few landmarks u will like it
In Male, for a day you can visit one of the near by island "Villingly", there you can see the local life. This island is located at western side of Male. Boat service is there. Near this boat jetty you can see the Tsunami monument.
Don't be in Male, go to Hulhumale instead and enjoy a 2 km long strip of beach with a lot of activities on the offer. Do buy a snorkel.
Male is doable by walking. Old Friday mosque could be a brief visit. My choice would be to stay near waterfront and go to the fish market. Great places to eat near ferry landing too.
1. Historical district where you could found the mosque(misky), presidential home, and museum.
2. Stroll along the ferry jetties where we could find jetties, presidental office, and parks.
Please check the google map.
