Wangnoo Houseboats Questions & Answers

Bhubaneswar, India

My Father is 66 and has spastic toes and can't walk without support. He will be confined to wheelchair / walker. Can we use the road / land to access the house boat, as the use of shikara would not be possible for him.

Hi,

Wangnoo house boat owner is a helpful and understanding gentleman. If you reach out to them, they surely would suggest the best options. But you must remember that for all house boats, if you are arriving by water (ie. we reached the other side of the lake and a shikara took us to the Wangnoo HB), almost all HBs are at a height requiring you to climb few narrow steps. If you each the right end of the lake by road (where the HB is attached to the lakeside, as mentioned above, it is a matter of managing the wheelchair along the planks (connecting land to the HB) - this should be managed by their staff easily.

Yes, there is a road that connects from the back side of the houseboat. Its a little longer route but there is a road way. Just a word of caution, the houseboat entrance has a few steps and your father may need a hand there. You can also call and confirm just in case there is a change in the boat infrastructure.

Happy stay!

Well, Wangnoo Houseboat team has been very helpful during our trip. You may ring them up the moment you land in Srinagar and they will definitely suggest you a safer alternative to help your father reaching the houseboat without Shikara. And yes, there is a road way also to reach their houseboat.

Shikara is not needed however there is s slope from the car park to the dock. Ideally I would call them and ask how close it is possible to take the vehicle to the dock, given the situation
