Can you bring your own food to the beach area? Also can you bring coolers with beer? (I know the website says no, but do they check?)

Alcohol is not allowed without a paid permit. DNR police may fine you.

Yes. The website says no, but we brought beer and did not have a problem. We tried to be a little smart about it - ie, don't walk around drinking it or plop down right in front of the life guards - but there were no issues. We were there on a Thursday, so it's possible they watch a bit more closely on the weekends.

You can bring your own food and grill if you want. They do have some charcoal grills spaced around the park. If someone with authority see's you with beer, they will ask you to pour it out or give you a ticket. The only to legally bring beer is to rent a pavilion and get a permit.

No one is there monitoring the beach. You pay when you enter the beach area in your vehicle, I saw no one "official" after that. Maybe there are times when monitored, but not when i visited.
