I am a volunteer at the railway and can confirm that dogs are welcome on the sites and on the train. If your dog hasn't seen a steam train before they may be nervous so take care.
If the visiting owls are on site (between the booking office and the signal box) please keep your dog at a distance from the owls as they can get upset.
Dogs are also welcome at the nearby motor museum and Café Ambio in Backbarrow.

Now you know about DOGS, I would like to add that it is clear this railway intends and tries to make everyone welcome.
HOWEVER the site is not easy for those of limited mobility, especially WHEELCHAIR users.
The refreshments area is unreachable; (there is not enough depth on the platform to include a ramp), but if you ring ahead assistance arrangements will be made so that refreshments can be brought to the alternative space available.
As we couldn't get inside (and had not known to ring ahead) I was glad the weather was good but it would have been great to find somewhere to sit.

I didn't see any dogs on the train I rode. However, at the station restaurant, there was a sign welcoming dogs. From what I saw, I would think dogs would also be welcome on the train.
I don't remember seeing any but that's not to say they aren't allowed!
Well behaved owners and their dogs are allowed and are free of charge. Rusty enjoyed our train ride and lake cruise last weekend.
