Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa Questions & Answers

Stafford, United Kingdom

Looking forward to our first 6 day trip in December to the Sheraton Porto , how far is the old town from hotel , is it walkable or taxi. Can you reccomend any good restaurants or places to visit. Also has anyone experienced a river cruise? Any tips would be helpful.

We like a walk every day so the 25 mins or so into town was no problem. The hotel is really good and we did not find it too expensive. In the evening you can get bar food in the lounge. We did the short river cruise and enjoyed it: I would certainly not want more than an hour or so. The weekend bruch is also great value and fun.

Hi there. Certainly bus or taxi to town directly from the hotel - better option is the metro from Casa da Musica (5 mins walk). The hotel restaurant is excellent though pricey. We enjoyed BBGourmet Maiorca, a short walk away for dinner and Casinha, also a short walk, for lunch and coffee. Enjoy!

Ps. Hotel breakfast is well worth it.

Town is taxi ride. Do a hop on off bus tour which will take you all over the city and you can have a guided tour. This way you can figure out the places Thant may interest you and you can then view them at leisure .

Sorry if this is a repeat answer. The Sheraton is lovely and breakfast was great. We stayed one night pre Douro River cruise. Newer upscale area so taxis needed to explore.

We made a horrible choice to cruise last May. Torrential rains stopped everything, but Uniworld gave free cruises for this year.

I'm sure you will enjoy this amazing area and your cruise.

The Metro is cheapest way to the old town. You need to buy tickets in advance before boarding train and hotel will give you the info. The best choice of restaurants are alongside the river there are lots to choose from at reasonable prices.

Yes, I agree with the answers here. You need to taxi to the old town. It's so beautiful ! We ate at a place within walking distance on the Main Street. Very good! Please do the river cruise , so worth it . We wished we had more time allotted here. Coming back again for sure.

The Sheraton is quite a walk from the old town, but there is a tram service about 5 mins walk away, which runs roughly every 2 - 3 minutes. We also did the river cruise which was pleasant as it was a very hot day.

The best restaurant by far is the Barao Fladgate at Taylors Port visitor centre. It has fabulous views of the city and the service and food is good.

Hi We enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton Porto. We always took a taxi from the hotel into Porto and back to the hotel, they are not expensive and it takes you right to the part of town you want to explore. We did the Five bridge's river trip which was interesting and lasted just over an hour. We thought about the full river cruise and decided against this and had a car and driver for the day. We think that was a far better choice as you see the river and the country side. We stopped off in several small villages and had a nice lunch.

I think you see far more that way and we went to the Sanderman Port vineyards, with a tour and tasting. Never realised there are so many different ports. Our driver was Tony from Gold Travel, recommend by the hotel and he was very good. He gave us a fantastic day out. Hope you enjoy your visit. Regards Barry

Be Vary f the river cruise. Anything over 2 hours can be painful. We did an all day river cruise where we met the travel guide at 7am at train station. 1 hour train ride and then on to the boat. This boat takes 6 hours to get back and you pass some scene sites. You go through a few dams, the first experience is very interesting, but 6 hours of good scenery, a few dams and some bridges gets to be too much. If I was to do it again I would do a private or semi private 2 hour or under boat trip up.

It's a taxi ride. As to restaurants, Concierge recommended an Italian restaurant whose name escapes me but it was good.

As for weather, we were also there in May and it sucked. That said, Portugal has more sun than any country in Europe so we were just horribly unlucky. Good news is we were there for two weeks and the weather got better halfway through. Enjoy!
