What do they do about large dogs do you need a large cage
Like everyone else said, you have to have a closed crate or carrier for him. Though no one seems to check much on your way on the boat, they will have issue if you don't have a storage unit for your dog. They aren't particular about what it is but it needs to be closed. Check Walmart because we saw some big dog crates there. The room they keep the animals in is small and doesn't offer anything for the pets so don't expect anything from the ferry. We weren't even allowed to walk our puppy.
You need a cage. Our dog was large, 80 lbs. could not find a cage large enough for him. So I made a cage from a large dog house, purchased at Walmart, and used a wire shelf for the door, purchased at Home Depot. Not easy to carry, but he was quite comfortable in it.
You can give them food and water. I was allowed to check on him as much as I desired and even talked one of the employees into letting me take him on a very short walk. Just be nice to the employees.
You will have to bring a crate for your dog with you. Pets are kept in one area of the ferry. Several reports I've read indicate you cannot go and check on your pet en route nor can you take them water. On our trip, owners were permitted to check on their pets once.
I really don't know about transporting dogs. I don't recall seeing any animals.
You can see their pet transportation policy page here. If you can't read Spanish, use Google translate.
Sorry, won't allow a URL in the reply. Go to their website (search baja ferries la Paz), click on the FAQs link in the menu. Last FAQ is about pets (mascotas). There's a link there to their pet policy page. Use Google to translate if you must.
