Viking cruise personnel put us in a grave danger during our Rheine river cruise. We (3 elderly senior citizens of ages up to 83 years old, some of whom had a history of heart attacks and strokes) got stranded in Speyer, Germany during a shore excursion. The guide lady gave us free time toward the end and told the group (35E) to meet her at the right hand side of the cathedral at 10:45am to get back to the ship. We were having coffee at a cafe and when we were heading back to the cathedral well before 10:45am, the guide lady was still sitting in a cafe next door, so we thought we must have plenty of time to get back. We leisurely walked back to the appointed location and got there by 10:45 am, but we could not find anybody who came with our group. So I went back to the cafe to find the guide lady where she was having coffee, but I could not find her. We searched all over but still could not find her, nor the group. We realized that they had left without us and that we got stranded in a foreign soil. None of us speaks German and we had no idea where to go to get back to the ship. I almost had a heart attack when the reality hit me hard. It took a while for us to calm down our nerves and decided to go to the local police station for help. To make the long story short, we found a policeman who speaks English there. Thanks to this policeman who helped us finding the docking location of the ship in Worms by making a few phone calls, we were able to get a taxi to Worms, which was the next destination of the ship about 50 km away. When we got there, we could not find the ship and drove along the shore to find the docking location of the ship in Worms. After making several frantic calls, we were finally able to connect with the manager of the ship, Victor, who our taxi driver was able to communicate in German to get the current status of the ship's journey and the time and the location of the next port in Rudesheim. The taxi driver was kind enough to take us to Rudesheim, which was about 100 km away from Worms. But when we got there, we could not find the location of the port that Victor had told the taxi driver, because the address and instruction provided by him was too vague and not accurate according to the driver. He ended up driving us back and force 2-3 times along the river to find the Viking dock. By talking to several local people, he finally found the general location of the Viking port and dropped us there and took off. But the correct location happened to be on the opposite side of the river and 2-3 miles away. We ended up taking a ferryboat to get across and walked for 2-3 miles to finally get to the ship, which, to our surprise, had already arrived about 45 minutes earlier than the time Victor had told us. I still don't understand why they had to hurry up and leave so quickly without us, just to arrive 45 minutes earlier than scheduled. Later when I complained to Victor and Andy, they were both busy in making excuses. Andy said we had not tagged the exit button when we left the ship in the morning and that he had no way of knowing that we were in the 35E group, which is hard to believe, because one of us had a conversation with him about the weather as we were exiting the ship in the morning. But based on what he said, it became obvious that they had switched the guide from the lady to Andy at the last minute without letting us know. Victor said he had a given proper instruction to the taxi driver, which is hard to believe, because the driver had written down the exact instruction on a piece of paper and he loudly repeated twice to make sure he got it right, which we all heard clearly over the speaker phone. Overall, this was a very dangerous situation for me because I had 2 strokes in the past. I could have been seriously ill or dropped dead in a remote country where I don't even speak the language. What bothered me the most was, instead of trying to come up with positive steps to prevent this kind of problem in the future, as I had recommended, both of them were too busy to find excuses and blame us, the victims, as if it was all our fault. This was contrary to what Victor had announced the night before that safety of the passengers is the utmost important responsibility of his. Had he taken the safety of the passengers seriously, why did he have to leave in a hurry without waiting for us for a few more minutes? And why did they have to change the guide to Andy at the last minute without letting us know? Two days later, the front desk clerk Mr. Bulz apologized that he forgot to correct the faulty door key of my room, which caused the exit door tagging problem. I am very disappointed with Viking and I will never go on any Viking cruise. I strongly urge Viking to improve their safety standard to ensure that no customers are left behind during their shore excursions and train their personnel.…

What an amazing trip. This was our 3rd Viking River Cruise and by far the best to date. The staff is attentive and caring. One of our group was ill and the waiter went down to the kitchen and cooked him a meal after the kitchen was closed. We did not even have to ask. The staff was always willing to give suggestions about places to eat and see while off the boat. They are helpful with hints about how to avoid the tourist areas as well as great places to get essentials you might have missed in packing. The boat is as expected. All of the River Ships are exactly the same. Sleek Scandinavian Style. If you are looking for lots of entertainment on the ship, you will be disappointed. It is not that kind of ship. No Casino or shows. They do bring on local artists to perform. But no big productions. We were too tired from all the tours and excursions we did anyway. Oh yeah! Take a bigger pant size!!!! You will need it. …

My recent trip on a Viking river cruise with my adult daughter was outstanding. Everything about Viking was exactly as advertised! From the minute we were picked up at the airport until we returned to the United States, was more than I expected. The entire staff was friendly, welcoming, and made every effort to make sure our every need/want was met. We took the 8-day Rhine River cruise on Viking Eir with the pre-extension in Lucerne and post-extension in Amsterdam. Each port offered a taste of the region and we ended with an excursion to Keukenhof Gardens outside Amsterdam. Viking more than exceeded our expectations!!…

It was our first trip on the river boat. Everything would have gone well except for a moment that we had a technical defect in our cabin. We reported it to the reception, of course. Only 4 hours later, without a single announcement, is a completely drunk engineer named Oleh Khomenko entered our cabin. Engineer Oleh could not stand and talk reasonably. He stank of alcohol. I kicked the man out of the cabin. Then we complained to the reception. The best thing was the answer from a young employee - unfortunately there are party days in Europe, so it happens that employees are little drunk. So never a trip like this again.…
