Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We recently spent a week on Ruby Princess in Alaska. She is a grand old Dame of a ship. The recent mini refurb has made her very comfortable. Our Balcony cabin was quite large, with a big balcony. The carpets and balcony furniture were new, this was seen throughout many areas of the ship. The bathroom was small but functional. The food was good in the main dining room (Michelangelo) and in Horizon. However, it could sometimes be a bun fight to get a seat/ food in Horizon. The queues at the Pizza area by the pool were always long. All the bars we used we enjoyed. Service everywhere was excellent. We enjoyed the ports and the White Horse Trip in Skagway was great. The trip down Endicott Arm was breath taking. Embarkation and disembarkation in Vancouver was very efficient.

Cruise was our 1st one so everything was new to us. 3 in our party, my wife and a friend who joined us, We loved it, food , accommodation and especially the staff. So much to do we didn’t make it to a lot of the evening shows. Lots of spots to hang with people or not. Only neg. things were 1. breakfast area very crowded! 2. rough seas one day ( blame mother nature ) 2. The 3 of us got Covid 5 days into the trip and spent the last 2 in our cabins pretty ill. Off the ship now 2 days and still under the weather. Vancouver, the BC coast and especially the stops on this trip are bucket list things. Go!!

We had a four and half hour wait trying to board the ruby princess in Vancouver …we had priority boarding?.. taxi driver and two port officers said this is a regular thing when three ships are in port, two of them being princess ships, so over six thousand passengers queuing with no seating or drinks, no princess representation or information. The journey to Alaska had four hundred travel agents on board who got first class service and the rest of us were left to struggle to get table reservations. I have tried writing to the company but no one even acknowledges. It’s unlike me to write a review as I believe every business Should have the opportunity to put right any issues, so it’s a case of vote with your feet and spend your hard earned money with a decent cruise company.

NO ONE SHOULD CRUISE WITH PRINCESS. They gouge for everything on board and make compulsory 18% tips on all purchases! I was sick after 6 days ON BOARD and still am now at home for 2 more weeks because of their lack of sterilizing the ship. Many were sick, had been sick and knew of many others that were sick. Princess also neglected to give us a reservation time for the dining room, and many people did not have a time and waited for over 40 minutes to get seated while standing! Too hard on too many people standing - we finally just went to the cafeteria for most meals, and even that was sometime a fiasco when one one side was open instead of the usual two sides, resulting in a long line up well out the door to the pool taking some 40 minutes to get access to the food. AND THEN THERE is their Medalan andl App that they want you to use (take 3 hrs prior to board just to get THAT TAG). And they want you to use their App which does not work! And want you to buy a Package (both have to have it, not just one) This package is $60 US each DAILY and most of it is not wanted by us. And they want you to also purchase a wine package so you dont have to get their poor wine in the lounge! The Medalian is really more for their convenience than the travellers.

I feel totally ripped off on the Ruby Princess Vancouver to Hawaii cruise (April 14-30, 2024)! We have been on Celebrity and RC before this trip and so we have something to compare a cruise to and in my opinion, this was a very poor experience. Mostly because of the sub par food quality. Boring, barely warm meals and poor-quality ingredients (with a few positive exceptions). The only thing in the buffet that was ever hot was the soup. Unless it was in a stew, the beef was extremely tough. There was insufficient bar staff. Coffee was delivered every morning to our room on time, but was never hot. The evening entertainment was hit and miss quality...mostly it was poor. The International Cafe often had only one, overworked staff member when at the same time there were staff standing around upstairs in Crooners. I found it a constant challenge to find a bathroom. The design of where they are located and signage is horrible. Nothing can be done now about the bathroom locations, but better signage could be added. In general, the serving staff are obviously not well trained or chosen well. We spoke to many fellow passengers who have done lots of cruising and everyone agreed that Ruby was their worst experience. Princess has been in this business for many years and I'm sure knows what it takes to provide a great cruise experience, however it's obvious that they just don't care enough. The hula, ukulele and enrichment classes were well done. The room steward was very friendly and did a great job. It was such a relief to get home so that we could have hot food and coffee again!
