Total disappointment with Princess: first cruise for my wife with Princess. Land tour was nice. Although we didn’t get to Fairbanks on time and missed staying at The Hyatt, the scenery in-land was very nice. We saw Denali in its glory: no clouds around it for 2 days! Fairbanks Princess Wilderness Lodge was nice, adequate. Food was scarce: the salmon bisque I had for dinner in the main dining room said it was a large bowl. It was so small. The salad my wife had for dinner was called a Strawberry, Goat cheese salad with bacon. The salad had one strawberry, barely any goat cheese and she looked in her bowl and could not find the bacon. so disappointing! Denali Lodge was a disappointment. We stay in the “R” section of cabins. I would not recommend it: no one should stay in “R”. “R” should mean renovate or relocate. The heater dial is located on the electrical baseboard without accurate reading in Fahrenheit. The toilet was running and so had to go to the Guest Service desk and get it fixed. The phone in the room was not working. The bathtub spout kept dripping. The clothes “closet” rod, located in full view of the room, was not secured and kept falling down. The room is a 0 out 10. That being said, the best part of the stay was the “Music of Denali” at the sister resort. A wonderful meal and a great musical! Why they do not promote this Musical more is beyond us. It was the highlight of our trip and we have to thank our bus driver for mentioning it to us on the bus. We had dinner at the saloon (Fanny Q Saloon), Fish and Chips! Awful!!! 3 little pieces of fish (size of nuggets) and barely a handful of fries. It was not worth the $25 each we paid. It appeared to us that they did not have enough food for all the guests. (It is not like they were not aware of how many people were showing up at the Lodge.) Mt. McKinley Lodge was ok. We were excepting a king or queen bed, we got two beds (queen) in the room, it was ok for one night. We took a bus to Talkeetna. This was worth it. Interesting little village and best Pub ever for burgers! That was one of the best meals! Overall, the land was nice and the bus drivers we had were knowledgeable and full of anecdotes. The Cruise: App/website was not working to book dinner times and the same dining times each night. Staff in general on the cruise were not friendly nor did they appear to be happy. No note from medical staff (cost starts at $150 US) should be needed to cancel a shore excursion when you are sick. The Ecursion desk was very rude, not helpful and really did not care at all. Gondala ride in Icy Straits was not worth the $50.00 each we paid. It was not as described in the brochure. The Mendenhall Glacier adventure describes on the website, or leads you to believe, that a walk on the glacier was included. However, the “ticket” for the adventure indicated “Does Not Include Walk on The Glacier”. Shore excursions writing should be transparent and honest. When dealing with shore excursion desk, the “clerks” were rude, unhappy, and very unhelpful. The Shore Excrusion Supervisor was never available to help. There should be a warning that there are a lot of open fires in Icy Straight for people dealing with asthma. Cheryl had an asthma attack after our visit there. This triggered other symptoms coupled with a visit at the medical centre (almost $600 US). This prevented us from touring with a group in Juneau because of her illness. We were reimbursed for the excursions only after we had to visit medical, otherwise we were never getting our money back for the excursion. As for food: The items/area of the buffet were not well indicated. The areas were sectioned off in different areas. On the other cruise with Celebrity, there was a “map” where to find items. This was NOT the case on Royal Princess. At lunch, the food was lukewarm, especially the soups. For both breakfast and lunch, we had to waive down a waiter to come to our table for any drinks. It appears that the buffet Crew were not happy on this cruise. The Bar service was slow or non existent in some parts of the ship: Vista lounge, Princess theatre, etc. The rule is if the drink menu is put down when sitting, a waiter comes to take the drink order, not so on this ship. Bar waiters were slow moving and getting to guests. Evening dinner was ok. The bread, as appetizer, was very disappointing: 2 to 4 hard crust buns (on previous cruises there was a variety of breads in shape and sizes). The best part of dinner was the attention we received from our waiter, Teboho, and the bar waiter, Audrey. We were fortunate to get a table for 8 at the same time, 5:30, in The Allegro Dining room after being told there were no dining times available in any dining rooms on the cruise until 8:30. It was impossible to book dinner times/dining room times using the Medallion or the app! This was my third cruise with Princess, my wife's first. I don’t think we will ever cruise with Princess again. The ship experience left a sour taste.

I took a cruise of a lifetime on the Royal Princess starting in Auckland and spending. 17 days visiting various ports in New Zealand and Australia. The ship is one of Princess larger and relatively newer ships in the Royal Class. I would have to say that I prefer the older ships which have Explorers Lounge in place of Princess Live as I find that venue to be a bit cramped - especially for trivia. But otherwise I was very pleased with the ship. The crew were all pleasant and there was a nice atmosphere throughout. The food was always good both in the buffet and in the Main Dining Room. I enjoyed the trivia and game shows although the entertainment staff were a mix of excellent and not so good.

I have been on many cruises over the past 20 years. I booked Royal Princess because I had read their itinerary for seeing Alaska glaciers is one of the best. And although that was true, the ship itself...its amenities, food and activities were below average. The ship is 10 years old and feels and looks like it.As soon as we boarded the ship, we were told luggage would take 3 to 4 hours to arrive. I thought that was longer than usual wait. So we went to buffet to get something to eat. I couldn't believe how hectic and packed the buffet was! It seemed like all 4,000 guests were there at once. Good luck finding a table and the food was mediocre at best. I reserved a handicapped accessible room and quickly noticed a dark carpet stain near the bathroom door. The rug was worn and faded. The beds felt lumpy. Immediately we noticed one of the bedside lamps did not work so they sent up maintenance and they did fix it. Because the ship is older, there were not enough USB or electric plugs...none near the bed so you had to plug things in on the counter in front of bed. I would highly suggest you bring a small electrical strip or 4 way plug so you can plug several rechargeables into the limited plugs. Small niceties you get on other cruise ships were noticeably missing...like a bottle or two of water, water glasses, a box of tissues, a pad of paper and pen...these were all missing from our stateroom. I had preordered 12 bottles of water as well as 6 cans of soda but when I called guest services on the first day to remind them they said "we have no water until late tonight or tomorrow." Can you imagine??...no water to buy? I had to go to buffet and steal some water from the pitchers there that waiters usually bring to u. Unbelievable. The 6 cans of soda took 3 days to arrive and were the wrong selection. When I said, I ordered diet Coke they said "we don't have any yet." I had also ordered a plate of cheese and crackers to surprise my sister and partner (this was my sister's first cruise and she booked her own inside room). The cheese was ordinary and dried out and you might think they would be accompanied with some sort of artisan crackers...but no...5 or 6 Ritz crackers. Terrible taste and terrible presentation and that cost $15. The wifi was a waste of money as it intermittently worked. Princess advertises the fact they have Medallion Net internet that relies on satellites etc but I had to visit the wifi desk 3 times to get this system to work. The entertainment included two production shows and they were very good although dated. The first show lasted only 30 minutes and we looked at each other saying "It's over already?" Other entertainment was boring....most free activities had to do with trying to sell you spa packages or artwork from their art gallery. We went to one trivia type activity but once is enough and they offered trivia, quiz contests, and game shows that I was not interested in. There were some days at sea that all I did was read because there was nothing of interest to do. I usually like Bingo, but this Bingo was from a company Princess hires to run it The prices were way to high with cheapest (one card) at $35 and if you wanted all cards it cost $80. We did not go to Bingo. FOOD: this is the first cruise ship I have ever been on where I had to send back food TWICE because it was served cold. And this happened at sit down and at buffet. And the waiters were acting like it was impossible "The plate is hot," they would say, but the food was cold. The menu at the sit down dining halls had nothing I found appealing and the buffet was often picked over and did not look appealing. Laudramat token dispenser did not work and again I had to call maintenance. After this disappointing experience, I would never book Princess again.

Avoid this ship at all costs unless you're 70+ years old. There is nothing to do; they have a casino, basketball court, "driving range", hot tubs, and a few other options that are closed almost the entire trip. The on-ship entertainment is wildly outdated, even one of the vocalists' pictures is like 20 years old which was the best part of the show for me. Food is by far the worst food I've had on any cruise - I'm baffled to see reviews of the food being good. It's so bad that we avoid the long waits at the dining hall and resort to the quick cafe food when we're hungry, and we also eat off ship as much as possible (overfilling ourselves to try to avoid eating dinner on ship). The only good food is the pizza. For example, the "NY Strip Steak" seems like it came from a frozen Stouffer's meal. We're all in our 30's and are unbearably bored on the ship. I'm writing this review while sitting on the ship. The silver lining, I guess is that the drink package may be more worth it since that's all you can do on the ship. The only relatively good thing is that Princess seems to stay ashore for longer than other lines.

- Our medallions were sent to us after we left home for trip:( We contacted Princess two weeks out multiple times about medallions knowing they wouldn’t make it here in time. They blew us off😡 Send earlier, others like us might be leaving weeks earlier before meeting ship🤫 - 135 mins waiting in lines to board:( - Our info said, “go to green lines,” saw no green line:( Then again, didn’t have medallions so it didn’t matter😡 - Really enjoyed our room:) Our porter Jerry was AWESOME! Sooooooooo many of their crew members had a servants heart😀 Only came across a few in top deck pool bar not friendly☹️After two times, won’t ask for coke there again😳 - Room was more than LARGE enough with a balcony:) Even size of bathroom and shower worked out fine and I’m a BIG guy🤫 Loved the towels:) Plenty of hot water and great pressure:) Also overall good shampoo/ body wash. Bed too soft and pillows too LARGE, but to each their own🤫 - We went on our 1st Princess cruise two years ago on Ruby, quality of food and desserts much better this time on Royal😀 - Noticed washing machines not working, they fixed quickly😀 Our TV had problems, once reported, fixed within hour😳😀 - It was a 22 day cruise, this being my 2nd Princess Cruise. The 1st one two years ago was an eleven day trip. Both trips, the professional talent was average:( Princess dancers and singers, were excellent and exceeded professional visiting talent😳 Cruise director Dan and one of his assistants, Thomas, can really sing! Two of the best voices I heard on this 22 day trip😮 Event planning was less than average in my opinion, to much down time with many events were just time killers and not interesting while nine days crossing pacific☹️ - Soooooooo NICE to enjoy the Plazza deck area without smoke pouring into it from casino:) This has been a problem on our 1st two trips:( - REALLY appreciated the attendant outside buffet area asking guests to wash hands:) Also, Purell sanitizer stations in many areas of ship:) - LOVE the room service😳 What a great service at night:) Morning coffee wins my wife’s ❤️ - International Cafe best kept secret on Princess, staff is unbelievable! Ana is exceptional! - This ship NEVER felt crowed😳 I will admit, the three floor seating area was rough in the plaza😒then again, no one was outside due to cold/rainy conditions🤫 - Wasn’t a fan of Alfredo's Pizza by plaza, pool deck Prego Pizzeria 🍕 was better in my opinion and it was free😳 Yet, could NOT get pizza 3 out of 4 different tries, always out of it cheese or the pepperoni☹️ And all three times, no one around🤔 - DO NOT sit in crow nest top seat section! People stand in front of aisles and block total view☹️ No employees directing people at over crowded venues😳 - IF there is to be no smoking in the casino, please enforce it please. We noticed a few people smoking when walking through. - This was a 22 day cruise:) Plenty of time to get a real feel on overall operations. I could nitpick all day long, finding little things done wrong:( But, I would also have to list all the little things doing right:) This was a GREAT experience! All staff for the most part through the ship:) Our porter Jerry was AWESOME! Even though we already included tips in our payment, we gave him all our leftover Yen cash from our Japan 🇯🇵 visit:) - Bathrooms around the ship are spotless! We kept running into a when your girl downstairs her name is Clara on deck five while cleaning all day. Her attitude and charisma puts Disney employees to shame:)
