Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was our first cruise, departure from Bari, Italy. The process of booking, checking -in and registering on departure were very well-organized, including time slots, which made the process smooth. Every day the program for the next day was distributed to the cabins. The housekeeping was very attentive, cleaning and changing towels every day. The ship itself was well-maintained, the staff was helpful and friendly. We found the entertainment excellent, especially at the Theatre, where every evening there was different performance, including ballet, singers, acrobatics, dancers, magician. The food was fresh and the various places to eat on board can satisfy each taste. At the main restaurants, though, where dinner was served (a-la-card) it takes a long time to get you dishes, so we preferred to use the buffets instead. There are also pizza and burger corners available almost 24/7. The kids club is more appropriate for toddlers, as the program they have, seems to suit them better than the older kids. There are many bars, casino, shops all around the ship. Small library with board game, cards, etc. is also available. The pools are too small for the capacity of the ship. The excursions are a lot overpriced. Overall, we had great time and we would recommend it!

1. The food is disgusting. They feed you only to fill your belly. There is nothing tasty here except for buns. 2. Very stupid reception staff and management. I call and ask what is the name of the port where we will arrive in Kefalonia? The answer is that the port is called Kefalonia. We arrived at a completely different port. The administrator simply opened the travel program and it says Kefalonia. For a smart person, this means that there is no port name and you need to call the captain and ask the name. She deceived me, gave me false information. In fairness, there is also good staff on the ship, these are ordinary cleaners, waiters. 3. The casino is unscrewed. I guarantee that the slot machines are reset to zero every cruise. The slot machines forget how much guests lost in them last week, before each new cruise. And therefore winnings are excluded. I own a casino and I am a professional in this business. I know what I'm talking about. Roulettes are American. We are in Europe. American roulette pays less. That's why they installed American roulette tables.

MSC Cruises ruined our European vacation. First, MSC informed us that—congratulations! Your cruise is now 1 day longer for the same price! You’ll now disembark at Athens on Tuesday May 21! Except that we had already booked both non-refundable flights and hotels. We called MSC and asked about leaving the ship a day early. They told us that it was absolutely possible to depart early, simply fill out paperwork at Guest Relations on the day of embarkation. On the strength of this reassurance, we kept our original Monday Athens flight and booked a connecting morning flight from Santorini to Athens on Sky Express. I asked Guest Relations on the ship 4 separate times, and I was assured over and over that I could come to Guest Relations on the day before disembarkation to fill out the paperwork. Then somebody finally realized that I was trying to leave at Santorini. We were literally just going to the airport directly to fly to Athens and on to Venice. We had our passports. They told us that we were free to leave, but not with our luggage. If we attempted to disembark the ship with our things, ship’s security would physically prevent us from leaving the ship with our luggage. We were now held against our will on board the MSC Opera. PRISONERS ABOARD SHIP. Let that process. I could go on about the MSC Opera and the many other problems on board the ship: -A bed so hard that housekeeping had to add three comforters to try to make it livable (it didn’t work) -Cigarette smoke being pulled in from HVAC air intakes and contaminating our room -Mold living inside the blow dryer hose, rendering it unusable -Loud and unavoidable safety drill announcements (didn't apply to us!) being piped into our cabin at every new port and disturbing us in five languages for an hour each -Overcrowded, unsatisfactory conditions throughout the cruise -Massive emotional distress at being held against our will and effectively ruining our vacation, including weeks of nightmares afterward. RUN!!!

I was on a 6 day cruise from Genoa to Naples (Pompeii), Heraklion (Knossos), Santorini and then to Bari. There were 5 of us (all being first time cruisers) and we LIKED the MSC Opera! The food was very good in the table service restaurants. We did dislike the cafeteria which was crowded and noisy and only used it once. The burger and pizza outdoor eateries were good. We liked the shows and the staff were very good

GOOD: STAFF - Lovely! Very hardworking - especially the bar team in the pool deck area who work Long, long days with hundreds of passengers thrusting their cards at them and screaming for drinks .. over & over again. Special thanks to Happy, Joseph and Bogden for making our cruise better with your wonderful helpful service and cocktails. CABIN attendant .. our cabin was kept immaculate by our attendant Sudiawan Wayan, thank you SPA - Fantastic 80 minute hot stone massage with Miss Holi from Madagascar. ENTERTAINMENT TEAM - Entertainment team were great, lovely shows in the evenings and they work hard to keep passengers entertained. BAD: EXTRA Loud screeching tannoy messages constantly being played. Restaurants. At times there were huge queues ,yet half the restaurant was closed. The buffet , chaotic and suffers with long queuing at every meal time, it’s by far the worst I’ve witnessed on any cruise ship, there simply isn’t enough food station space available for the number of people to access. When you get food, it’s extremely difficult to find anywhere to sit and they need far more staff cleaning the buffet area. Dirty walls, floors and tables. People- we were on a cruise with the majority of passengers coming from Kazakhstan , they skip queuing, push and bash past you, and while waiting for a table they look at you waiting patiently for it to be cleaned and choose to sit down anyway. I’ve not encountered this on any ship before. For context in the past I have travelled with MSC, Celebrity & Crystal Cruises All in all, I definitely would not recommend this ship to anyone, sadly. It’s the worst cruise I’ve been on. It’s old and tired. Thankyou to the staff though who work extremely hard to try to please the passengers.
