A great walk of approx. 30-40 mins through a lovely wooded area that emerges at the top to an open space with glorious views.
Situated right at the end of the town, there are toilets at the bottom which were very clean.
Well worth doing.Written 11 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The weather was pretty miserable so at least there weren't many people around.
However there were many animals and being able to get up and close to most of them was awesome, and being able to pat or feed them was even better. The whole layout of the site was really nice.
Heaps of parking available and cheap entry as well which was awesome. Definitely recommend this visit to everyone who visits Hanmer Springs, it's on the main road just before you enter the township.Written 13 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Good facilities. The hydro slides are awesome. It was a busy day during the school holidays but it didn’t feel crowded.Written 9 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Y7354PZmichaeljAuckland Central, New Zealand3 contributionsAs a family with 2 teens we had a great time over 3 days with Hanmer Adventure.
- Fun on the rocket bikes around town
- Archery with Amie
- Clay Bird (Shotgun) Shooting with Ross
- Quad bike riding with Amie and Pete
Great, friendly shuttle ride from Hanmer to 'the farm' for activities all included.
Well run, great condition equipment and safety lead to fun experiences for us as a couple and 2 x teen boys.Written 15 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Course seems to be very well maintained and great to have plenty of seating and stops along the way for the hotter days.Written 20 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ChelTWellington, New Zealand56 contributionsIt has to be done. You must experience it at least once. It is a beautiful part of the country. If you can get hold of a good 4wd, you must do it.
Warning:
It is a 4WD road. Do not expect it to be smooth. It will be bumpy and hairy on some spots. NO, don't bring your shiny city SUV - you will need a proper 4WD with high clearance. There will be several fords and a possible river crossing.
The toilets are long drop toilets - bring your own hand sanitizer (and maybe toilet paper). There are no restaurants or cafe along the way so bring your own food. Take your rubbish with you.
It is the wilderness (and part of farm) - there will be animals and animal droppings.
But the view is stunning. Take your time, enjoy and truly soak it in.Written 13 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The grounds are (usually) peaceful for a walk and the bushes stunning depending on the season.Written 22 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - eater2016Christchurch, New Zealand97 contributionsDidn't visit the area for skiing but had an interesting ride up the 4WD track as far as the snowline in the family 4WD. Great views...very peaceful...only saw 3 or 4 other vehicles during the 90 minute duration of our drive in and out. A few stream fords to cross and some marginally challenging hairpin bends...The latter stages of the "drive" zig zagging up the mountain are possibly not for the faint hearted but in reality are still a pretty safe drive. Expect to spend some time cleaning your 4WD when you get home!Written 7 September 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brigit BHamilton, New Zealand71 contributionsWe really enjoyed pottering around the shop. The art works and homewares were all gorgeous and there was a really good selection of jewellery.Written 12 July 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
