What travellers are saying
- Akshay SharmaNew Delhi, India10,630 contributionsWhile in Sri Lanka this is a must visit place. It has lots of history ranging from King Kashyapa to King Ravana. It is worth the visit. The climb is steep but one must go on. The entry fees is quite high and one needs to have a passport for entry ticket purchase. There are paintings, mirror wall, water tank on the top which are unique to this place.Written 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tracey CUnited Kingdom24 contributionsA decent climb up a lot of steps initially followed by some bouldering at the end made the views all the more rewarding when we reached the top for sunrise. A local chap was guiding people how to scramble over the final rocks to reach the top, which then allowed everyone to copy. There was even a couple of wild dogs and monkeys at the top! Beautiful views of Lion Rock. Well worth the effort of getting up at 4.45am to meet the tuktuk driver who drove us there - felt safer with him because he’d have known what to do if we came across an elephant which apparently is not unheard of at this time of day🐘Written 28 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alan CHong Kong, China371 contributionsThe museum has a great open air style to it, but sadly looking dilapidated in places. Nevertheless, worth a visit to obtain background information on the history of the rock and the archaeological finds. Interesting photos of late 19 century archaeological expeditions. Also you there are copies of the frescos which you are not allowed to take photos of on the rock itself, but the museum allowed us to take pictures of the copies.Written 11 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's nice walk to see caves which have been inhabited by meditating monks many many years ago. A very serene atmosphere and nice nature walk. Keep about half a day if you want to explore several caves.Written 16 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marc LVeenendaal, The Netherlands706 contributionsAbsolutely fabulous.. a wonderful rock with a climb that is doable for all. The views on top are magical.. try to do it at Sunset.
Note: entry ticket is $30 but it’s worth it.Written 14 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were lucky, as because of Covid and the Sri Lankan economy, there were very few people here. We feel very sorry for the Sri Lankan people though as no tourists further hurts the economy.
Back to Lion Rock, the climb is worth it but get a Sherpa, they call themselves bodyguards, as they can help the weakest person still get to the top and back down again. We did it early and we’re great full for the cooler morning air.
Warning, there are no bathrooms except at the bottom, so make sure to use them before you start as it takes hours to go up and back down.Written 2 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. She explained the process to us and invited us to look around without obligation to buy. We asked her about the taxi service and she provided us with prices, again without obligation. The next day we went back and booked a morning trip to Polonnanwra and an afternoon jeep safari to see the elephants. This was a very sucessful day, so we asked her to quote us for a trip to Dambulla the next day followed by a transfer to Kandy the day after that. She advised that it would be cheaper to visit Dambulla by tuk-tuk and provided us with a great driver who gave us his full attention and provided us with a great trip. We also had a comfortable air-conditioned car with a friendly driver to take us to Kandy. Thank you to Rosi and her drivers.Written 10 March 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jean-Sébastien W1 contributionIt s such a great and passionate family who teaches you how to cook classic and easy meals, WITH THEIR OWN INGREDIENTS... AND TOTALLY ORGANIC! Im very thankful, I will go back to Belgium with wonderful and easy recipes. It s cultural and everlasting. At the end you eat what you prepared :D
It s so much better to cook with their own spices than the crap you will find in touristic places like the road of spices (I read those people buy spices from supermarkets and sell them as high quality spices... Here at organic kitchen you get fresh and very fine and delicate home made products).
They really deserve good clients. We were supposed to be with 2 other couples and they canceled last minute. Please don't do this.Written 19 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's not shiny anymore, you can't touch it, it's just therein its not shiny form.
Frescoes that are waiting for you at the end of the line are much more interesting, since it's something to look at. The line leading to the frescoes is heading among the Mirror Wall. It's not possible to take pictures of frescoes, thought, there is a lot of staff watching everyone so nobody does it.Written 28 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
