My 11th Pilgrimage to Lourdes was so wonderful, words cannot express my feelings. This is a very 'Special' Sanctuary that I haven't experienced in other places. I will always go to Lourdes because Our Lady made all this possible through 'Messages' to Bernadette. Through Mary to Jesus and the Incredible Bond between Jesus and Mary is why our Faith exists in this way. Jesus and Mary are waiting for you... Merci Notre Dame de Lourdes !

One of the best trips of my life! Absolutely beautiful place. The peace and gentleness of the experience will be with me forever. Though there are many many people it is so smoothly run by volunteers that there is no issues at all.
Very touched to see so many young and old volunteers helping the people in wheelchairs and those who have illness.
The water at Lourdes is very healing too. I bought a big bottle filled it up at the Lourdes taps ( spring water from the mountain) and distributed it to family and friends at home ( it is check in luggage for bringing back water).
The church itself is absolutely beautiful inside.
The 9 pm procession of Mother Mary is worth doing and very special indeed.
Can’t recommend it more. Hope to go back!

Great castle with the best views of Lourdes and the Pyrenees. It's worth the climb. Beware that they do not allow entrance 30 minutes before reaching their closing time for lunch (do not go by their website) .

I was so very impressed with what we found when we arrived. The guided tour is so well done. There is free parking on site for cars as well as across the river in the municipal parking lot. The audio commentary was accompanied by sounds, and music that added beautifully to the experience. The details that are in each centimeter of this exhibit space are so beautiful!

One of the docents, at the end of our tour shared with us about some of the floods that have struck the area in the past several years and the miracles of the displays not being harmed despite being under water!

Highly recommend taking the time to see this amazing exhibit that one man created out of a heart of gratitude for a healing that he had received.

Very impressive collection of tableaux, quite moving, in a beautiful setting - just to the side of the upper basilica and a world away from the crowds and the bustle of the town. The expressions on the faces are quite lifelike - the bored centurion and Simon clearly saying ‘do I have to? Now I’ll be late home.” A highlight of my trip to Lourdes.

An amazing arrangement of churches in three layers on the side of a mountain, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. A chapel with a church on top and then a basilica underneath built in stages as the site became more popular, making the most of its dramatic setting. Maybe a bit theatrical - Bavarian castles and Disney come to mimd, but this composition of buildings has physical and spiritual integrity which should appeal to spiritual as well as the romantic and curious parts of our nature!

There are three basilicas within the Sanctuary of Lourdes including Basilica of St. Pius X, the huge subterranean church near the East entrance to the sanctuary grounds. St. Pius X was designed by architect Pierre Vago and opened in 1958. Opening hours are 8am to 6pm daily and there are several entrances into an oval-shaped underground area that is 190 metres in length and 60 metres wide.

Basilica of St. Pius X holds regularly held mass for pilgrims and other visitors to the Sanctuary. You can learn about mass and service schedule on the Lourdes website as well as at the Tourist Information Office within the sanctuary grounds.

What you will find within the church is a fairly small centre stage and endless rows of chairs surrounding the stage, filling in the huge open area which has the capacity to seat up to 25,000 people.

There is also walkway above that encircles the seating area. Here you will find various religious themed artworks, including 52 beautiful Gemmail style stained glass works, various sketches and banners. These are interesting to see in addition to the mere scale of this underground church.

I really enjoyed my experience at the Chocolate museum. It was extremely compelling to learn the history, and sample chocolate, naturally! Very highly recommended!

The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary is one of three churches along with the Crypt and Upper Basilica at the site where St. Bernadette experienced her apparitions in the city of Lourdes. Opening hours are 7am to 10pm daily.

This minor basilica was designed by architect Leopold Hardy in Byzantine style in 1899. This is the church you enter from ground level when facing the Sanctuary of Lourdes centre church complex. There are very impressive mosaics that make up the facade and entrance area which is found at ground level.

Within the church, you will find a nave layout in the shape of a cross. The apse and inner cupola portray more impressive mosaics as do the numerous small chapels that line the sides of the nave, each with mosaics scenes depicting the Stations of the Cross. Start from left to right if you want to walk through and view them in order.

Strongly suggest to sign up with the information center for the tour of Bernadette’s living quarters and life. If you understand French, take the session with the Deacon François, he’s wonderful! Full of energy and lively for an elderly man.

On seeing the figure of St. Bernadette sitting with a sheep in a field in the show window, I thought that the museum was purely based on her life. However, there are different scenes of Our Lord's Last Supper and Passion. Very impressive but as I told the lady at the souvenir shop, being a Jew, Our Lord, surely did not have blonde hair as depicted in the Last Supper. Both the Crucifixion and the last display of the family Soubirous were very impression. Last but not least, the scene on the veranda was spectacular.

The Crypt of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is one of three important churches located upon the grounds where St. Bernadette experienced her apparitions in the city of Lourdes. The Virgin Mary requested that the people build a church upon here. Three were to come with this crypt being the first (1866) while the main basilica continued being constructed until 1871.

The crypt is in effect, the middle church between the "upper" Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and just above and the "lower" Basilica of Our Lady of Rosary with its entrance on ground level down below. It is a small indoor area of only 50 sq. metres including a chapel of St. Michel where you can view the reliquary shrine which holds relics of St. Bernadette acquired in 1925 from the Convent Chapel of Sister of Never where she was laid to rest.

Following through the back of the church you will find several small chapels where you can stop to pray and enjoy the Gothic architecture and beautiful use of small chapel space. Exit to your left when ready and then you can walk up to the entrance to the impressive Upper Basilica of the Immaculate Conception just above.
