Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We chose a private Guatavita tour and it was well worth the time and money. David was our guide and he was a delight. He was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the history of the area. He also encouraged us to discuss and ask questions about anything and everything. This allowed us to really get to learn about Colombia and the culture. I brought a book because I thought I’d have down time in the car, but I don’t think we stopped speaking the entire day.

We made a pit stop on the way up and had a chance for refreshments and a couple of photos. At Laguna de Guatavita, we followed a larger group that was Spanish only, but David conducted everything in English. The hike to the lagoon was a little more work that I expected. So start working on your cardio now! But it was absolutely beautiful and worth the increased BPM.

After the hike, we stopped at the parking area and purchased a couple of trinkets and bought arepas. They were the best arepas of my entire life. I had two!

Afterwards we headed to lunch. The views couldn’t be beat and we continued to have good conversation.

Last we stopped in New Guatavita. Honestly, I could have spent an entire afternoon there. It is a charming little town and we happened to be there when a festival was happening.

It was a full day, but so worth it and the time really flew by. We were picked up and dropped off by our driver, Juan David. He wasn’t as talkative as David, but we did get a chance to practice his English a little bit.

I definitely recommend Gran Colombian tours. Easy to book and quality experience.

Javier was fantastic! I felt like I got such a localized experience that I wouldn’t have gotten with a bigger group or big tour company. He knew the best food stands to stop at and was very knowledgeable about the area and attractions. I had a wonderful time and would 10/10 recommend!

I was in Bogota for 1 day and decided to book the tour to Lake Guatavita and the salt cathedral. Jose was an amazing tour guide, and had a lot of fun during the entire tour. Since they new my flight left the same day, they were nice enough to wait for me to pick up my luggage at the hotel and take me to the airport! Amazing experience definitely recommend it!

The Park was undisturbed and well-maintained. We were even asked to leave our unopened water bottles with our driver, we were very impressed with their efforts to protect the environment. We were not allowed to walk up to the lagoon without a guide, unfortunately the guide didn’t speak English.

We had an amazing experience and wonderful 10 hours. Javier is an awesome guide, as promised he picked us from our place and we had a great time. Javier translated the Lake tour for us in English. Post visit to Guatavita lake, Javier took us to an authentic Colombian restaurant to try the local cuisine. Herbal tea before the hike to lake was a great surprise. Javier had all the travel essentials in his car i.e. hot water, tea bags, sugar, umbrella, cap etc.
    Overall awesome experience!!

A well-spent day exploring Guatavita Lake and Town. The town is super cute and there are a few shops nearby you can pick up some local souvenirs and some coffee shops. The tour in Guatavita lake was really interesting as we learned about the indigenous culture and history and language.

In February I was with my wife in Bogota. We wanted to discover the surroundings of the city and we were fortunate to have Catalina as our guide. We spent two days with her at the Guatavita lake and La Chorrera waterfall and it was very fun.Now we can say we this beautiful country in a different way

My son and I spent 4 days in Bogota. In addition to having Luis as out guide for 2 of those days, we hired him to pick us up at the airport when we arrived. We knew immediately that we would be delighted with service from Luis. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet his brother.
Luis was an amazing guide. He is knowledgeable, interesting and provides excellent customer service. Luis does not watch the clock. His goal is to make sure that you learn about Bogota and see the sites that are important to you.
I wanted to go to the Salt Cathedral and Lake Guatavita but was concerned when I read some of the reviews. I decided to take a chance and hired Luis for this trip. One warning, it is a very long day. Having said that, it is also a very interesting and informative day. At Lake Guatavita you are led through the park by a ranger. Nevertheless less, Luis stayed with us the entire time and translated. While the ranger was lovely and possibly could have managed in English as well as Spanish, we would have struggled to understand her. Luis's English is excellent and he is easy to understand. I wear hearing aids and have trouble understanding some people but I did very well with Luis. One alert, if you are older, as I am, (I'll be 80 on 2/9), Lake Guatavita is at an even higher altitude than Bogota. Walking up over 100 steps can be taxing under these conditions. The ranger does go at a slow pace and is willing to stop as needed. I did need to ask for a few stops even though I exercise regularly. The effort to get to the top is definitely worth it. Lake Guatavita played an important role in the life of the indigenous people of the region and should be seen after a visit to the Gold Museum.
After visiting the Lake Guatavita we rode about 11/2 hours to the Salt Cathedral. At Luis suggestion we all had lunch in a restaurant near the salt mine and enjoyed the local food. Luis hired a guide who is also a mine worker to take us through the Salt Cathedral. Again Luis stayed with us the entire time. He oversees everything to make certain you are please with the way the tour is proceeding. Even if you're not Catholic, which we are not, the Salt Cathedral is amazing. We were glad we built this into our Bogota visit.
Finally, I cannot say enough about Luis as a guide. He works hard to make certain that your visit meets or exceeds your expectations. In addition, he is a delightful young man. I unconditionally recommend him and his company. Hopefully I will get a chance to meet up with him again in the future.
