An wonderful park of humanity
The size and scope of this park was stunning. The artist had spent his whole life (apart from his work at the mill) creating a park with over 500 human figures of all sorts, many in yoga positions. The artist did not have any children of his own but started making a large number here after his mother died. Altogether a very pleasant stop.

Magnificent area for bird observations
An early morning visit to this area showed up to be rich in birds. Visited various observation locations and was able to see birds on land, in marsh, on water and some migrating geese. Some of our observations were: Thrush nightingale, Willow warbler, Common snipe, Lesser spotted woodpecker, Eurasian curlew, Eurasian bittern, Common goldeneye, Common pochard, Whooper swan, Western marsh harrier and Rough-legged buzzard

Tiny market square by Lake Simpele
Parikkalan tori (Parikkala Market Square) is situated in the center of Parikkala by lake Simpele. You find some market stalls and a cafeteria there. There is also an interesting servant girl statue named Parikkalan piika (The Maid of Parikkala) there. An old phrase says that "Maids of Parikkala and whitefishes of Simpele are better than anywhere else".

Beautiful sandy beach with good playgrounds
Rantapuisto Swimming Beach (Rantapuiston uimaranta) is a part of Saharanta Outdoor Recreation Area (Saharannan ulkoilualue) in the center of Parikkala. You find a nice sandy beach, a playground, a beach volley court and beautiful walking paths there. This is a very idyllic place, if the weather is good.
