Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- JariJKKouvola, Finland5,322 contributionsMielakka Ski Center (Mielakan rinnekeskus) has quite good ski slopes and cross-country skiing tracks. However, they offer activities in summer, too. Mielakka BikePark is extremely good. They have 20 downhill mountain biking routes, two lifts and biking paths. The cafeteria-restaurant is quite nice and cozy. You can also buy sausages there and grill sausages in their campfire. Besides, they always have something new in Mielakka Ski Center. Now they have painted the longest rag rug painting in Finland. It is about 350 meters long.Written 3 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JariJKKouvola, Finland5,322 contributionsThere is a very nice circle route named Korpin kierros in Niivermäki Nature Conservation Area. It is 2.1 kilometers long and starts just behind the shopping center Veturi, 200 meters from K-Rauta Ironmonger's (home improvement shop).
You don't need wellingtons (rubber boots), because there are boardwalks on the wettest passages. There is a low observation tower on the trail. If you are hiking with kids, you should be aware, because there is a cliff without a fence next to the observation tower.
There aren't any services in Niivermäki (not even dry toilets or waste baskets). So you have to use the services of the shopping center Veturi.
Niivermäki Nature Conservation Area is worth of a separate trip but it is also a nice resting place for drivers driving along the highway 6.Written 14 August 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There was a watermill there as early as in the 18th century. The nature path follows the side of a small stream and it is about 1,5 kilometers long in one direction. The whole protected are is over 28 hectares. You see old trees there and if you are lucky, you can see flying squirrels, too. Now a fun fact: The American horror movie "Rage: Midsummer's Eve" was filmed partly here, in the pond next to the small waterfall.Written 20 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JariJKKouvola, Finland5,322 contributionsAlakylä nature path (Alakylän luontopolku) is 4 kilometers long. They have two parking places. The address of the bigger parking place is Läntinen Ratatie 286 and the smaller one is Koriansuora 353, at the beginning of Tammirannantie Street. There is a bus stop next to the parking place.
The route between Läntinen Ratatie Parking and the lean-to shelter (the campfire site) is accessible for everybody (bikes, wheelchairs, prams). The distance is about 800 meters. After that there are some quite long stairs. The whole circle route along Lepoahontie is about 4 kilometers. If you walk to Alakylä, you see a small agricultural village.
There are some nice sitting places along the path. However, mostly it is just a typical Finnish forest. There are some beautiful ravines there but views to the big River Kymi (Kymijoki) are barely visible because there are so many trees there.
You don't need any special shoes or boots but a long sleeve shirt or a jacket may be a good idea because there may be mosquitoes there in summer.Written 10 April 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is situated in Koria (address Kouluaukio), Kouvola. The nearest bus stop is located 800 meters from the path. The gravel path is easy to walk. You don't need any rubber boots or wellies. There is also a modest campfire site on the route.
The area of Pioneerimetsä Forest is about 40 hectares. It consists of Ahkoja Nature Conservation Area and conserved Natura 2000 areas. The area was a garrison area for 80 years, first for Russian soldiers and then for Finnish soldiers. You still see some remnants of military activities there, e.g. old trenches, dugouts and foxholes. You even see an old Russian steel bridge, which has been brought there during the war.
River Kymijoki and small streams are very important for the nature of the area. The forest and river views are beautiful. However, it isn't possible to swim in the river, because the flow of the river is quite strong. Sometimes it is possible to see flying squirrels in the forest. This nature path is suitable for the whole family.Written 27 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
