Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- JariJKKouvola, Finland7,042 contributionsHelvi Honka (1903-1993) was a honorable Principal in Kouvola. Helvi Honka was a small woman but she was a strong leader in a big school for boys. Her statue was erected in front of the city library in 2007.Written 9 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JariJKKouvola, Finland7,042 contributionsHaitarijazz (literally Accordion Jazz) is a statue or actually a water fountain which was erected at the market square named Hansatori in 2003. The statue is made of granite and bronze. It is a monument to accordion traditions in Kouvola but the monument itself is a bit too modern for me.Written 29 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JariJKKouvola, Finland7,042 contributionsItsenäisyyden patsas (literally the statue of independence or the statue of liberty) was erected in 1936. It is made of granite and reinforced concrete and it is over six meters high. You see a wounded soldier and an angel in the relief. This statue is quite impressive.Written 29 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mikael FHelsinki, Finland31,001 contributionsThis quite small statue is located near Kouvola Main Library. It is easy to leave unnoticed.
The statue was designed and executed by Onni Pursiainen. He used his son Oiva as a face model. The monument was completed in 1968.Written 16 June 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. To be precise, they are located in Utti Square, which belongs to Utti Garrison. Walking in the garrison area is restricted. You may visit aviation memorials but it is absolutely forbidden to walk further.
The genuine warplane named Messerschmitt Bf 109 is the most interesting memorial. Other memorials include air force memorial to the fallen, plane crash memorial of Douglas DC-3 in 1978 and a long-range reconnaissance patrol ErP 4 memorial.
These aviation memorials and the nearby Utti Fort (read separate Tripadvisor reviews of it) combine an interesting war history destination. The distance from the city center of Kouvola is 12 kilometers. There is a good asphalted cycleway the whole way.Written 25 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was erected in Kuusankoski in 1972. Nowadays Kuusankoski is a part of the city of Kouvola.
Traditionally moving sawn tree trunks downstream from forests to pulp mills and paper mills was the main transportation method of logs in Finland. The total length of Finland's timber floating routes was 40,000 kilometers. There are paper mills also in Kuusankoski and log driving has been an important tradition here. So in my opinion this statue is an important part of local history in Kouvola and the statue is quite impressing.Written 10 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
