Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Bowen ZLondon, UK3 contributionsThe owner of the farm Satumarja was so friendly, so knowledgeable, and so patient with us even though we were a bit late to be able to start with delays getting winter clothing rentals.
The husky safari was really fun and intimate, we got to pet them afterwards, and get warmed up by a fire, and we didn't fall off the sleds once! I think booking safaris from family-run businesses like this is the best way to experience them rather than from a resort. 10/10 would recommend and do again!Written 20 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ReindeermanLaplandLapland158 contributionsJuoksenki is beautiful and cute Arctic Circle village in Finnish Lapland around 25 km south of Pello's center. You can find there a place to cross the Arctic Circle and local services. In winter the "must" in Juoksenki is the Arctic Circle ice road which enable you to go to Swedish Lapland and visit the Swedish Arctic Circe village called Juoksengi village, which is located on the other side of the Tornio River.Written 3 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ReindeermanLaplandLapland158 contributionsA unique way to cross the Arctic Circle Line, national border and time zone border in winter in Juoksenki Village in Pello! You must take the 1 km road which is constructed by local people over the Tornio / Torne River. You can take the road by car, walking or cross-country skiing. This road is connecting in winter the two Arctic Circle villages: Juoksenki in Finnish Lapland and Juoksengi in Swedish Lapland.Written 5 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ReindeermanLaplandLapland158 contributionsThe Pieskänjupuka Scenic Trail in Pello in Finnish Lapland is approximately 1,6 kilometers long, but it requires a rather good physical fitness as the path ascends a steep slope all the way to the top of the hill. However, the climb is worthwhile because from the summit, you’ll be rewarded with magnificent views of Miekojärvi Lake, which is one of the biggest lakes of Finnish Lapland. The stunning landscape at the top of Pieskänjupukka is often compared to the national scenery of Koli in East of Finland. The trail begins at the shore of Miekojärvi Lake (Pakisjärventie), which is also accessible by car. The parking space is rather limited. Look out for color-coded markers along the trail. It is really worth exploring this beautiful trail and enjoy the breathtaking vistas!Written 3 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ReindeermanLaplandLapland158 contributionsRitavaara's unique cross country skiing trails meet FIS standards. You have lots space and very few people. A great varity of landscapes. It is a particularly interesting place for skiers looking for early snow because its trail network is usually covered by a skiable blanket of snow much sooner than the area’s other trails.Written 3 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ReindeermanLaplandLapland158 contributionsIn 1736-1737 was conducted a French expedition to determine the shape of the Earth. It was led by French mathematician and philosopher Pierre Louis Moreau de Maupertuis.. Maupertuis expedition’s purpose was to perform measurements to determine whether the Earth was round or flattened at its poles. Maupertuis was one of the leading philosophers and scientists of the Age of Enlightenment of the French Academy of Sciences.
Maupertuis was accompanied by Alexis Claude Clairaut, Charles Étienne Louis Camus and Pierre Charles Le Monnier, all astronomers themselves. The expedition also included Reginald Outhier, and Swedish scientists, the famous Anders Celsius and Anders Hellant.
Northernmost measurement site was the Kittisvaara Mountain, located about 3 km north of the Pello’s center. A Maupertuis Memorial was erected on Kittisvaara Mountain in 1956 to commemorate the expedition. The monument as such is rather modest but actually the whole Mountain Kittis creates the memorial with unique views over Tornio Valley. By visiting the site you can experience the views that the unique scientists lived in 18th century.
The access to site is easy in summer : in winter apparently you need skis or snow snow shoes to visit it.Written 2 February 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The site, on the bank of Puolamajärvi Lake, is great and very peaceful. This reindeer farm offers also accommodation.Written 21 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ReindeermanLaplandLapland158 contributionsThe church of Turtola in Pello located in a great location along the Tornio River. Next to the church, a nice view opens up the village of Svanstein in Swedish Lapland. The original church was been destroyed in 1944 by German Army. All that remains of the old church are its stone steps, which have been preserved. With donations primarily coming from USA, the new beautiful white church was completed in 1953.
In Turtola’s World War II heroes’ cemetery, there is an impressive fighter-themed monument made by sculptor Kalervo Kallio. The warrior statue includes several interesting details. The fighter’s has genuine Lapland “lapikkaat” boots. The sharp looking fighter is holding the legendary submachine gun, Suomi-konepistooli, in his hands, with the barrel facing to Russia.Written 29 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A very nice view to the river and to Swedish Lapland. There is one café-restaurant and couple of souvenirs and gift shops. There are several car charging places (included Tesla super charging) and enough place for parking. The place is open all year around. In summer the place has a very nice terrace to admire the river and Lapland's nature.Written 5 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ReindeermanLaplandLapland158 contributionsNice place for cross-country skiing (tens of km of excellant trails) and also for downhill skiing for families and beginners. Prices not too high compared to many resorts. For cross-country skiing you pay nothing...Written 5 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ReindeermanLaplandLapland158 contributionsOranki Art is a really cool and revolutionary environmental art exhibition organized by several artists in the middle of a beautiful Finnish forest landscape. The exhibition is located on a wooded ridge near the village of Orajärvi, about 25 km north of the Pello centre in Finnish Lapland. The very first exhibition took place already in 2001 and every year you can see new pieces of art and old ones (some of them might be 5-10 years old). The surface of the area is large and there tens of piece of art, so you have in same time the opportunity walk couple of kilometers in the beautiful Finnish nature. My favourite ones are the statues of the local artist Essi Korva .
The entrance to the art zone is free and area is open to the public between end June and end of September.Written 3 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This sandy beach and dune, located on the border between Pello and Ylitornio municipalities, was chosen in 2007 as Finland’s most beautiful sandy beach.
NOTE: you cannot drive directly to the beach: you must park the car in Kaaranneskoskentie road and then walk around 2-2,5 km by using a trail which might be sometimes rather wet, but which is normally in a good state and well indicated (difficult to get lost. The access to the beach is therefore not very easy but it is definitely worth visiting. That is certainly why the beach is so well preserved. You can easily spend a half day if it is a beautiful summer day. The water in the lake is very clear. NOTE also there are no kiosks or other services in the beach so remember to take your water and snacks in your backpack.Written 3 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was rather easy to find this golf course (located some 20 km from the center of Pello), however they could improve the street signs. The disc course golf as such has a nice profile and the landscape is rich. The placement of the tees is rather well indicated. The place is rather free of mosquitoes (at least on that rather windy day when I was playing there with my family). Globally it was a very nice experience (you can easily spend 2-3 hours on that place).Written 28 July 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
