We just came back from a 5 days Husky tour which we booked at Pallas Husky. It was an amazing experience and we don’t want to miss this in our life. Beautiful nature, Markku and his staff are making it to a lovely family bonding experience. They also are taking good care of the dogs and Laura did her job very good as guide! Thank you for this beautiful memory! We highly recommend it.

Pakasaivo is not only a beautiful nature spot formed after Ice Age, but also a sacred mythological place for the Sami people. Well worth a visit despite the bit rough road.
Nearby is also an open fireplace and a kota where you can prepare food. Well maintained toilets by the paring lot.

One on my favs at Muonio. Choose a clear warm day and good hiking shoes (not sneekers), water and enough lunch/snacks to enjoy this hike. The landscape on the summit is amazing but it's usually very windy up there so take your windstopper clothing with you in case (autumn especially). On summer time lots of ants going around lower path. Do not stop in one place for long time. In August blueberries all over the forest.

The trail start: park your car in the backyard of Tunturikeimiö and go left from the building to find the path.. it goes first on the left in the pine tree forest. After a while you'll arrive to a wooden reindeer fench. Just go through it (by lifting some parts of fench poles aside..and remember to put them back as well) and continue a wide path down and in a while it turns up...a partly rocky and steep trail.

The views get better and better when you go up. When you get above the trees the landscape opens up. Go around and enjoy. Lotsbof nice spots sitting on the rocks and have lunch.

Note: there are 2 peaks - the lower peak is about 1 km away if you want to hike there as well.

You can continue your hike to Sammaltunturi and from there to Lommoltunturi - this trail is located to Northern side of summit stones. Have fun!

Walked up to the "summit" of Särkitunturi on a nice and sunny day in late July. I got a car ride from Muonio to the parking at the trailhead in the morning and took the bus back to Muonio from Särkijärvi bus stop (about 3 km walk from the trailhead) in the afternoon. It's a very popular hike, so expect a lot of other people on the trail, especially from noon on. But it's worth it, the landscape is beautiful, the trail is easy going all along, first through forest, passing by a nice big "kota" shelter and fire place (+ outhouse), steadily uphill to and above the tree line into beautiful landscape with amazing views. The established trails ends at the lake, but if you walk on slightly to the right, there are some paths that will lead you to the highest point.

Keimiöniemi Fishing Cabins (Keimiöniemen kalapirtit) are one of the Seven Wonders in Finland. This was a dwelling place as early as in the Stone Age. First wooden fishing cabins were built in the 16th century.

Nowadays there are still 18 fishing cabins and storehouses made of log. Most of them were built in the 19th century. Some of those preserved fishing cabins are as old as from the 18th century.

These fishing cabins are privately owned and they are still in active use. So you can't go inside these cabins. However, you may always (24/7) walk around them, on courtyards, and admire these historical buildings. And it is totally free without any admission fee. Notice that there aren't any services in the area (no toilets, no cafeteria etc).

Keimiöniemi Fishing Cabins are situated in Muonio (Keimiöniemi Peninsula), on the Lake Jerisjärvi, between Kutuniva and Rauhala. There is a small sign from the road between Kutuniva and Rauhala. By car you can drive next to these fishing cabins (less than 200 meters from the parking place). If you come by bus, you have to walk two kilometers from the nearest bus stop.

Nearest services (toilets and a cafeteria) are situated in Hotel Jeris (2.5 kilometers) and in Hotel Tunturikeimiö (aka Keimiötunturin Maja, 3 kilometers) if they are open. Remember to visit Keimiotunturi Fell in the same way, because it is situated only 3 kilometers from Keimiöniemi Fishing Cabins.

This is one of the most interesting historical sites in Lapland!

It's a lovely little museum of local history. It exhibits many items of the past - telling about daily life, farming, crafting. It's a group of rustic style buildings with item collections. It's worth a visit if you're interested in history - how our forefathers' life looked like. You can see interiors of an ordinary house, you see how people lived.
    This place has charm.
Check the opening times before you go, it isn't open all year round.

Expectations were high but unfortunately this place didn’t meet those. The smoke sauna (Ukko) was not warm, the air sauna (Ilmatar) was literally cold and the earth sauna (Tapio) was a standard electric sauna. The water sauna (Vellamo) was the best one with good heat and nice views. The lounge area had a disgusting old sweat smell. There are probably better and more authentic sauna places with lower price.

We had a week long holiday with a group of friends in Muonio and Kilpisjärvi. We had many activities with Wildmaker's Valtteri and every single one of them was awesome! We did hiking, snowshoeing, ice fishing and snowmobile safaris and they were perfectly organized and we had a blast! Would recommend 6/5.

Such a great experience. The guides are incredibly helpful and informative. Definitely recommend using the thermal suits though, it was -28° when we went (very cold!). The dogs are great! So friendly and loveable. They really do enjoy running. Such a unique experience and totally worth doing!

Took a cab (it wasn't cheap) here on recommendation from our hotel to feed the reindeer. It was just fabulous!! The snow was knee deep and so getting to the reindeer was not easy but well worth the trek. They actually came right up to us for food. It was very exciting and the pictures we got are breathtaking. I would do this again in a heart beat.

Shaman told us the story of local history and lifestyle in interesting manner. Afterwards, we ate the most delicious dinner - prepared from local ingredients. It was probably the best dinner I have eaten in Lapland.

We had an incredible private husky sledging tour here. My partner and I shared a sledge. We were taught how to carefully steer the sledge and we even harnessed the dogs onto the sledge. You get to meet all the dogs - they have 40! We were given warm boots, an extra thick coat, and gloves to use. After the sledging, we had blueberry cake and blueberry juice around a fire. The tour was a great length and the whole thing lasted around 2 hours. We absolutely loved the views - we were sledging through the middle of nowhere! We highly recommend this company to do dogsledging in a beautiful remote setting.
