- Lilipty15Panama City, Panama211 contributionsThe experience was very good...I booked the private ski lesson...Henri, my teacher was very kind and patient...you really learn the basics of skiing for the first time...he helps you develop confidence so that you enjoy the activity.
After the ski lesson you can continue practicing on your own, as it includes the use of the equipment all day.
In general, all the staff is very friendly and they help you with everything you need.
The resort is very nice and even though there was a lot of snow and it was very cold, I enjoyed the experience.
At the entrance they have a very cozy restaurant, where you can eat or simply drink wine and desserts like I did.
When I arrived, the chairlift was closed almost all day due to fog and very low temperatures...but thank God they opened it in the afternoon and I was able to go up to the top of the resort, there is another very nice restaurant and souvenir shop there.
I enjoyed a full day at the resort and would definitely repeat it if I return to Saariselka.
The only thing I would advise is to arrive whit enough time in advance if you book ski lessons, because it takes a long time to put on your shoes and clothes and in addition they only had one guy serving the queue of those of us who had booked private lessons online. So it takes longer while they review your booking and give you the equipment...so I started the class late and it was very short because they don't credit the time you lose while you wait for the equipment to ski.
BTW...Thank you all because it was an extraordinary experience.Written 12 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Bus dropped us right by the start of the Ruijanpolku Trail where there are several information boards giving details of winter walking, snow shoe and cross country ski routes. You can hire equipment from the hotel next to the trail, there is also a campsite and hostel. We decided to walk the 7.5 km snow shoe route up to the top of the fell at 500 plus meters, hardwork in the snow but the views from the top are definitely worth it. We followed a clear marked route all the way back to the fell hotel and then enjoyed the smoke sauna and a dip in the ice plunge pool a fantastic day out.Written 28 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Scenic671968354931 contributionWhat a wonderful experience! Mila was so kind and informative. I knew it would be very cold so I was prepared with foot warmers and heated gloves along with many layers. The day was picture perfect with no wind. We walked, trotted and cantered some through the gorgeous trails. I loved my mount! Olny (sp?) was the best combination of energy and steadiness. As a horse person I have ridden many places. This place was so well organized and the horses were well cared for. Our guide, Mila, was very good to check on us throughout the ride. - MoonsterUKUK1,962 contributionsBooked direct on their website. Emailed confirmed pick up time from our hotel and they arrived with minivan at that time. Transfer from saariselka was around 10 mimutes. When we arrived they didn't seem at all ready for guests, still prepping the sleighs, told us to just go and look at the reindeer. Seemed a bit odd.
Eventually the sleigh ride started and this was a lovely experience, up through the woods. The lead sleigh was driven by the herder and all the others tied together in a convoy. It was at walking pace and the woods were really pretty. I would say it was around 40 minutes or so, kids did get a bit bored as the forest all stated to look a bit samey, as did the reindeer's butt which we studied closely.
On return to the farm we fed the reindeers with lichen and then offered hot drinks and cake in the kota with fire. The sami herder told us all about reindeer herding and what it involved, all quite fascinating and even kids interested.
Return transport back to saariselka less successful. There were only two groups on the trip. The other couple had been picked up separately and arrived in a separate vehicle, but they pooled us into one for drop off. Only issue was their hotel was in opposite direction to saariselka down lots of windy roads and they took them first, so our 10 minute transfer on a mostly straight road because a 30 minute ride. Of kids windy roads and kids dressed in outside gear for what we thought was a 10 minute journey was not a combination and ended up with two kids who don't get travel sick wanting to vomit. Sadly meant the experience overall was a bit marred as we felt this could easily have been avoided. If we'd have known this we would have taken our own car for example rather than use their transfers.Written 7 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. And what's better, the shop host, Mirra, was the most lovely and knowledgable gem. We learned so much about Finland, the native Sami people, and the language. This is a must see in Saariselka, whether in peak or off peak season!Written 2 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
