Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Jackie M4 contributionsWhat a fantastic day out!! We booked both the mountain bikes which were Marin bikes and easy to manage out on the trails. We only booked half day rental as we wanted to do the zip wire experience also. We have been before a few years back when we weee on holiday up here and loved it so wanted to go back, there are a couple of additional trails, we did the original blue and the new blue then the orange!! What brilliant fun although exhausting! A complete adrenaline rush on the trails for both experienced and novice riders, brilliant!! After a delicious lunch in the cafe we ventured out onto the zip course with Kyle, who put us at ease instantly from getting the harness on to riding the wires. My god, what a buzz, you are taken through a getting to know how small course then move to the higher longer wires before embarking on the double wires where you can race against each other which of course my teen boys (15 & 17) did, many times… so did we ….. what a brilliant day…. Kyle, thank you!!Written 26 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Annie MaxwellPenrith, UK14 contributionsSmall but very interesting museum and friendly staff. Loved the books of old, local newspaper clippings. Well worth a visitWritten 14 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Hannah T4 contributionsGreat find off the beaten track. Small car park at bottom of hill with choice of two walks up to the castle. One steep climb up steps or gentle wind up the hill at the back of the castle. We chose the latter as we had small kids with us. There were horses in the field behind the castle. The castle backs right on to a private residence. Only the bottom floor is accessible which was a bit disappointing but still interesting.Written 30 May 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anne B2 contributionsI visited this place twice. The first time because I needed information on certain types of whisky for a character in a manuscript. I was helped very well by Scot and Craigh although I did not buy anything. The second time I knocked on the door to buy a bottle when the shop was unexpectedly closed for winter hours, no problem, Scot opened the door, let me taste and I bought my bottle. Customer service at its best!Written 3 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- csmd2612Somerset, UK63 contributionsThe title of this review speaks volumes! I was so disappointed. The two members of staff were so busy with what they were working on before I entered the shop, I almost felt I was intruding on their time and in the end, I left. The only saving grace was that they gave me the name of an artist I had expressed an interest in. Even so, it was like pulling teeth I would not visit this gallery again.Written 29 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - alibatty🦇Dundee, UK21,494 contributionsQuite unusual to come across such a grand ornate drinking fountain in a little highland village of just over 700 people. It was apparently a gift to the villagers from Robert Gordon in 1915, and was made by the much lauded Lion Foundry in Kirkintilloch. This structure stands 12ft 8 inches high upon a stepped square stone base . The central supporting column has 4 lion masks around it, from which once drinking water spouted from into the 4 quatrefoil basins beneath. Palmettes and floral relief decorate the column, and surmounting it is a classical stone statue of a woman in flowing robes holding an urn upon her head & clasping an olive branch in her left hand. There are cast iron stools either side that were installed so children could reach the fountains for a drink , and they’re inscribed with the words “Step up bairns.”Written 11 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ModestlyAmazingSheffield, UK331 contributionsI've been staying in a cottage across the way for the last week and poked my head in here a couple of times, the shops run by a lovely lady from what I can gather, very kind and talkative. Offered to give advice on what to do around the area.
The shop itself is lovely filled with a wide variety of gifts, one of the highlights of the trip for me I'd say.Written 2 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. However, it was still brilliant and loved every moment
We were expertly guided by Matt who also taught us about camping and navigating skills which were needed in the mist
He was able to adapt to the conditions and rather than wild camp up high he chose a spot near a bothy where we could eat inside
The second day wasn’t quite as wet and it was great being able to start the day early without a drive involved. Managed to get some great walks and beautiful views despite the weather
Was also very impressed with the good they supplied for me as I’m gluten and dairy free but never felt like I didn’t have enough to eat
All of the equipment was ultra light and the best quality
