Upon seeing this beach with multiple pools, I thought of a water park, man-made and an admission charge. Of course, none of us were interested in swimming, or even getting wet. This swimming pool area is fun for the kids, and anyone looking for a destination for safe, monitored swimming.
One half of the area is through a ticket booth area. Entry is 3E.
We didn't realize that our lunch venue would be just above.

It is a nice and easy walk that basically stays even the whole time. If you plan a longer hike, be Ware that the Levada is closed after the first tunnel. Still worth it nevertheless

Again, we did a levada walk with nature at it´s best. Breathtaking hike in almost apocalyptic circumstances. It´s a little bit elevation in the beginning and at the end. But really, nature was so unreal close to us at this hike

Nature is just a wonderful thing and this place is a wonderful and unique as most other places on Madeira. In general always worth a stop when see the "Miradouro" sign.

We usually have a wander around when we visit Porto Moniz. There is a child-like fascination of getting up close and personal with sea life. It's small and doesn't take long to see. I would like to see the information boards more relevant to the life in them - in the big tank there are many large fish including sharks that you cannot identify.

A beautiful building with so much potential for exhibits. Just an array of posters and a gift shop. Very disappointing and not worth the effort. Took us 10 minutes to see it all.

amazing and extremely friendly staff, my daughters were very happy, the fish are most likely used to many people diving with them

Was amazing! Our tour guide Alex really personalised the tour for us and made it special for me and my other half! He’s English was good as he lived there for 12 years. It was my girlfriends birthday and we had plans to go horse riding through the mountains but was cancelled both times we tried organising the trip. We then tried to book a trip with the company Alex worked for but they were fully booked. When finding out about my girlfriends birthday he went out his way to plan his own tour for us! It really made our holiday and he took us to the perfect restaurant which had the best view! As a little bonus he bought my girlfriend a present!

Amazing experience! In addition to the fact that the person who explained everything to us was very helpful and careful, the dive itself was spectacular. First we swam in the natural pool, next to the aquarium, where it was possible to see their natural habitat, and then we swam inside the aquarium. An incredible experience I can say for sure, we observed several sea species and swam side by side with them. An experience I will never forget and definitely a "must do" in Madeira Island.

Absolutely incredible! We originally were just popping in on our way to the pools but it became the best part of our day. The man who showed us round was great, clearly very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We essentially received a free private tour where we could learn about each of the turtles looked after here. It also seemed like he genuinely cared about the animals welfare, which was reassuring - only getting them out if they looked very relaxed and handling them gently. The whole experience was educational and fun and I really hope they are able to make this a permanent exhibit.

A gem of an attraction, which is free and unique. These are essentially pools formed by sea water trapped in a rather elaborate lava ‘walls’ and it makes for a very cool swimming experience.

My son and I went in (Feb so water was quite cold) and snorkelled. The underwater environment is amazing with lots of fish and depths of up to 20+ feet (maybe more) alongside really shallow areas where you can walk.

The pools are calm and unaffected by the sea, which is good as on the day we visited, the sea was really rough….and yet the pools were still.

Whilst this is volcanic formed, don’t be under any illusion the water is warmed. It isn’t. Also, whilst they have built steps into the various pools, it is super slippery so you need some caution getting in and out.

Overall, a unique place to swim and a treat for anyone who enjoys open water swimming or snorkelling. Best of all, it was also free!

First frustrated by the sudden change in weather we defied the odds and went for the hike. It was so great to see the trees and the fog convert in to a mystical landscape. Worthwhile to came here irrespective of the weather.

Tuesday 15th June and we were driving along ER101 heading towards Porto Moniz and we stopped at this roadside viewing platform. It is situated just before the road starts it's steep and winding descend into the town.

It is basically a layby where cars can safely park up, and people can walk along and enjoy the views. There is nothing here apart from a small Shrine. Across the road from it there is a plaque on the mountain side bearing the Crest and name of Porto Moniz.

It's so worth a stop as the views down and across Porto Moniz are rather spectacular. There is a full view of the promenade (Frente) which stretches from Piscinas Naturais as far as Aquário da Madeira. There are also super views of the wild and rugged coastline.
