We really enjoyed our time at Trim Castle! You have to take the guided tour to go inside and it takes about an hour and is totally worth it! This castle is so well preserved and had 3d models inside the great hall where the tour starts to show the stages of construction! The tour guide was so knowledgeable. The view from the top was amazing and you can see several of other historic structures/ruins from there. Trim was the only castle we toured that still had the curtain wall intact so it gave a better perspective for the scale of what it once was. Fun Fact there were a few movies filmed there including parts of Braveheart! This was the perfect ending to our vacation and I would 100% recommend it!

Waiting to take our tour of Trim Castle we walked along the river Boyne nearby. Beautiful river with pleasant paths on both sides that take you past the Golden tower, the sheep’s gate and, you can see the sculpture of the salmon of knowledge on the bank (there’s a placard that tells about it). The Boyne is named for the Celtic goddess, named Bovinda by Ptolemy in approximately 150 AD (she with the white cows or white like a cow) or earlier Boand or Brian— you can feel her presence all through this valley as her river surges and winds through Trim and beyond. Her moods change depending on location — she was moving fast through Trim this Saturday afternoon but up in Drougheda she was placid and calm. Anyone who likes rivers will enjoy wandering her shores.

The church is located in the heart of Trim right across from the Trim Castle. The grounds area lovely and easy to move around. We highly recommend seeing this if you are traveling to Trim.

If you decide to do a walk after visiting the castle, the bridge is just next to it.
Be careful with the cars as it is very busy

Nice ruins, nice walk. The cemetery is still active which is interesting to see, since some tombs are hundreds of years old.

Trim is one of my favourite spots in Ireland for medieval walks and this is a nice part of it.

There are so many historic monuments and medieval buildings in County Meath, north of Dublin. The cathedral of St. Peter and Paul one of the Newtown Monuments to be found in the town of Trim; the other monuments consist of two monasteries and small church which date from the 13th century. This medieval cathedral is situated in Newtown Cemetery, on the north bank of the River Boyne about 1 mile (or slightly less) along the river from Trim Castle (famously used by Mel Gibson as a location in his film Braveheart).
This cathedral is most impressive for its very high formidably strong walls – it was the best cathedral in Ireland back in that era, founded close to the seat of power in Trim Castle by the Norman Bishop Simon de Rochfort in 1206. Today, it is mostly in ruins with plenty of tombstones but the entrance to the chapter house and the refectory are partly preserved. There weren’t many tourists on the day we visited so we enjoyed a peaceful stroll with mostly grazing sheep for company.

The remains of a pretty and tall historical structure. It's a pity that only this small piece of it remains, but it's still a nice landmark. Surrounded by lovely grassy areas fantastic for a walk/stroll any time of day.

I'm not sure if my review is valid as we did not do the tour, instead we visited for the Open Night which was a great evening out.
There were some displays on how the beer is brewed although the lads were far too busy with far too big a crowd to attend to you in the way they undoubtedly would on a regular tour. (You could still see the enormous vats, some ingredients and the preparation area.)
I say this with confidence because even though the place was packed we were all welcomed personally, given a brief description of what was offer and generally treated with the utmost respect by any of the employees on the night.
Really nice vibe with great beer, music and food, though in fairness I very much doubt you'd get that on the tour! Well, you'd get the beer which is what counts the most, right?
I heartily recommend a visit, we fully plan to come back and do a 'proper' tour

Situated just over the river from Newtowntrim this is another set of ruins well worth a visit if in area. The ruins are of a 13 century priory.

My only other comment is that unfortunately there are a lot of empty beers can and broken glass bottles inside the ruins which is a shame

Trim is such a wonderful town with several lovely old churches, the Trim castle and great pubs and shops galore. Definitely a fine example of Ireland at it's best and a most picturesque setting for picnics and lovely walks through the church yards, and along the Boyne River .

While walking in Trim if you by chance encounter this lovely garden it is worth taking the time to pause and contemplate. A nicely groomed and comfortable park like location.

Its hard to miss this if you are walking or driving through Trim, not much history is known about it to the average person but there is plenty of information online to help you know what it is. If you are walking to it at least you will get a feel for the size of it. If you are driving its easy to spot, but you don't get much of a chance to take it all in. There are better attractions in Trim to view but its worth a look all the same.

You will "get this" much more if you know a little about the salmon of knowledge and Irish folklore.

The Victorine Priory is part of the beautiful Newtown Ruins a short walk or drive to the Dublin side of Trim.
There's a small car park by the stone bridge over the River Boyne opposite a pub and access to the ruins is via a small path around and through Newtown Graveyard.
The Priory is the last ruin you will see fronting onto the river and the Riverbank path that leads all the way to Trim Castle and the town.
Only the southern wall and part of the western wall survives and there are beautiful pointed stone window arches and frames. In the evening sun it is lit up beautifully and is best seen from below on the riverside path.
Most visitors go to the adjacent Newtown Cathedral which dates from 1206 and the Parsh Church of Clonbun that backs on to it with the Tomb of the Jealous Man and Woman, but the Priory is just as worthy of a visit. It may not be as big or have as much preserved, but it definitely has the most scenic location.
Another thing you can do is walk across to the other side of the river by crossing the stone bridge. That brings you to the main Dublin- Trim Road that looks down on the Priory and the whole Newtown Ruin complex. There's a gate/stile called The Echo Gate. If you call to the Priory from there the echo back from that southern wall is remarkably clear!
Completely free to visit, a beautiful place.
