We stopped by mostly to get the passport stamp but had a delightful experience. The small visitor center is very informative, and the ranger there was helpful and friendly. We too the short (maybe half mile) trail around the temples and past where King Kamehameha and his retinue and family used to leave. It is a beautiful area, I can see why he chose it. Only about 15 minutes north of Waikoloa and definitely worth paying a visit.

Take 30 minutes and appreciate Hawaii's history. The defense and strength of the island and how the islands would eventually unite.

We swam with mantas on the night manta swim and it was amazing! Wow! We left the boat ramp just before sunset then headed towards the Mau
na Kea. The crew put the surf board with lights attached into the water. We jumped in, held onto the board and the mantas came. They almost touched us as we were face down in the water. There were only 6 of us so our experience was much more intimate than the other boats which had twice as many guests. I can't wait to return! Thank you Kelsey, Doug and Sue Lang!

My husband and I have been scuba diving since the late 1990's and I can say, hands down, that the Kohala Divers operation is the best we have ever experienced! Why do I say that?

    1. Professional, courteous, efficient, and friendly staff in the shop and the shop is well stocked.

    2. Outstanding SCUBAPRO rental equipment.

    3. Namaka is a roomy, comfortable dive boat with a head on the main deck! Also an easy entry in the water - large stride off the stern and easy return to board the boat - two ladders at the stern. Also, the boat has two weighted, 20 ft descent lines off the stern to make descents and safety stops really easy.

    4. Excellent dive briefings prior to our dives providing an understanding of the topography, depths, and what to look for on the dive site.

    5. Speed of the dive - maybe it is because I live in a place that is predominantly drift diving, but my favorite thing to do is to take my time to enjoy the fish and observe behaviors. You miss so much when you are constantly swimming to find the next big thing. Kohala dive masters are great with moving slowly underwater so that we don't miss anything!

    6. The dive masters are professional, friendly, and fun and are really focused on safety and providing an amazing experience for their diver guests. They accommodate divers of all levels. They set up your equipment if you prefer! It really is a true valet service that will make all divers feel comfortable. We dove with Matthew, Sandy, Corey, and Justin and all were outstanding.

    7. We dove with dive boat captains Keith and Ty and both are knowledgeable, professional, and focused on safety and making sure that the dive site conditions are conducive to an enjoyable dive. They even ensure your mask is defogged before you hop off the back of the boat!

    8. The dive sites on the northern Kohala Coast are less populated with dive boats and you arrive at an outstanding dive site in a relatively short period of time. The boat travels north and south for dive sites.

Kohala Divers describes themselves as a "luxurious valet dive charter" and they truly live up to that description - in fact they surpass it! I highly recommend Kohala Divers whether you are an experienced diver or a new diver or student. You will not be disappointed!!!

We have visited 3 different "nut stores" - one in Oahu and two on the Big Island - so yes, this was the biggest store and people were great but it just "missed" the spirit for me the other two had, maybe I just expected too much or maybe like others said here... it's basically just a big store on a big parking lot.

Free sampling of a veryyyyyyyy long line up (so did the other 2 places...) was of course the highlight of the visit, but as usual it's the personal taste and where we liked some flavors here most of them just had some weird tasting "powder" on them which wasn't my thing... and no I am not comparing Hamakua to Mauna Loa (we skipped this one for the record) - though the SPAM one was actually pretty good! :)

We visited pretty late but it appears you can observe through the glass the facility when it's operating + read some boards with interesting info

TIP: there are more things here, coffee, vine etc. + even some tables outside where you can have a lunch

I took my family out with Captain G and his crew for a night snorkel in search of manta rays and had a wonderful time. My family loved that we had a private boat that catered just to us. We lucked out and did in fact see two large manta rays and everyone loved it! I especially love that we were in a small quiet harbor in a location that had only a couple other boats. My experience with the most popular manta ray location south of Kona is that it’s insanely crowded and the boats pack people in making the experience much less enjoyable. Definitely recommend Captain G. He’s always super knowledgeable and passionate about sea life. Thank you guys!!!!

My husband and I joined Captain Major and Zoe for a 3-hour snorkel + boat on a sleepy Sunday morning, and I cannot express how wonderful our experience was! We were originally scheduled for the Shaka Sail Catamaran, but due to maintenance we were switched to the Shaka Lux - we didn't know at the time how important this would be for our adventure!

We brought a few beverages onboard, and they provided some delicious snacks along with sunscreen and snorkel equipment. We took a ride up and down the coast to enjoy the weather before pulling into a cove for snorkeling; they were super helpful and Zoe snorkeled with us, pointing out schools of fish and other exciting things to see in the water. After climbing back on board and toweling off, we took off again after my husband spotted a pot of spinner dolphins! Within minutes, we were surrounded by 30+ dolphins jumping and spinning - words can't really describe how amazing this experience was. Captain Major did an amazing job keeping the boat going steady to allow the dolphins to interact with the boat as they'd like, and we spent about 30 minutes enjoying all the dolphins!

We finally (reluctantly) headed back to the harbor, enjoying some snacks and drinks along the way and spotting the large amount of flying fish jumping out of the surf! We said our goodbyes and went to a nearby bar for some food. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND going out with these guys - easily one of the BEST EXPERIENCES of our honeymoon! Thanks again guys!

We had an amazing private charter sunset sail—Captain Steve was knowledgeable and friendly and made everyone feel safe & welcome. Our onboard snacks were delicious. The sunset was gorgeous & we saw amazing stars. All in all a beautiful, memorable wonderful time aboard the sailboat with Steve & first mate Jess.

My wife and I have been diving around the Hawaiian islands for many years, but it may be hard to top the 10 days we just spent diving with Mike, Jess, Noe, and Dustin at Liquid Cosmos Divers. Their knowledge about the sea life off the Kohala Coast is just amazing. Mike is a professional underwater photographer, Jess is completing her marine biology PhD, and Noe was born and raised in Hawaii and has worked for dive shops on four islands. They all have 1000s of dives under their belts, but yet they also still share the infectious joy of seeing a harp snail for the first time. They make each dive feel like a new adventure!

This is our second year diving with LCD, and we were thrilled to experience their brand new boat, Moonshine. It was custom built for them in 2022, and is extremely comfortable and convenient for the passengers. I loved the huge fresh water camera tanks built into the floor of the boat, and the comfy chairs in the back, where you can hide from the sea spray on the way back to dock. The angled ladder at the back also makes climbing back into the boat with all your gear a breeze.

We can't recommend LCD enough to any divers looking for an exciting yet comfortable adventure down below!

Just book it! Greg and Robert are the best. Whether you catch fish or not (and you most likely will) you'll have a blast. The boat is immaculate, smooth in the water, and doesn't smell of fuel like other boats I've been on. The scenery is amazing! Make sure to take off before sunrise so you can catch the sun coming up while catching your bait fish. The 8 foot shark we wrestled with for 25 minutes was an amazing experience but honestly if all you do is troll around for 4 hours taking in the beauty of the Big Island from the water it's still well worth it.

After briefly considering using the spa services at our hotel at Hapuna Beach and being a little stunned by what you get (or do not get) for your money, I decided to look around nearby. I was so happy to find Blue Dragon for myself and my husband. We booked 90 minutes massages and virtually floated out of there. Mind you this is a massage studio, not a "spa", and these practitioners are not messing around. Also, everything smells so soothing. I love that this is a local business that takes pride in its work. Also, Renee, who I made the appointments with, is so lovely and helpful. Thank you Kachina and Shiloh!

Excellent, friendly team just doing their thing. Which means go out, shut it down and let the whales come sing and frolic.

Our cruise was very comfortable and successful. We saw several whales. One in particular really wanted to show off and breached half a dozen times. William and Susan have a very relaxed approach which makes you feel like you are with your friends out looking for whales. They also got us up close to about 30 spinner dolphins and got us a good look at some very colorful local fish.
I would recommend a long sleeve shirt or windbreaker as part of the cruise was a bit chilly for some.

Highly recommend this sailboat catamaran to explore and Kawaihai harbor is very conveniently located. The Dolce Vita is a comfortable boat with shade or sun, restroom, table, coolers, and easy access to the water for snorkeling. Seeing the whales were amazing but even if we hadn't, I'd 100% recommend this boat and crew. Amazing experience all around.
