What travellers are saying
- TriDmnFuquay-Varina, NC42 contributionsGreat way to get from one beach or resort to another. This is much quicker than driving to the shops or restaurants.Written 13 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TriDmnFuquay-Varina, NC42 contributionsEnjoyed this wide, long beach. The turtles visited multiple times. Great spot to watch the sunset. Walk to the right for more privacy.Written 13 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

The waves here in October were minimal and it was not difficult to get in to the water. The snorkeling is best in the morning and the crowd picked up as the day wore on so go early morning for the best, least crowded snorkel experience. Also swim out to the furthest tip of the reef and beyond, mind the surge breaking on the rocks of course, but the outer point is the least crowded area and was where the turtles were hanging out feeding. Even a better idea walk past the reef through a small cluster of trees on the beach to the other side of the reef and snorkel the north side of it and head out to the point from there. You will encounter less people on that side of the reef as most of the snorkelers are coming from the Wailea Beach Resort which is on the south side. The fish were numerous (all the classic Hawaiian reef fish) and conditions in October were about 10-15' visibility and maybe
20+ further out. I saw at least 3 different turtles feeding and hanging out but it could have been as many as 7 since I had numerous sitings some of which may have been the same turtles.Written 15 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Natalia SalasSan Jose, Costa Rica11 contributionsGorgeous, we actually got to enjoy the whole beach to ourselves. It was amazing! It was clean, clear blue, and lovely. Waves were FUN SIZE, meaning, big enough for us to play there and body surf, but not big enough for me to be scared (I am scared of waves that are taller than me).Written 30 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - yapper20San Francisco, CA105 contributionsVery enjoyable walk along the Wailea Beach with wonderful views. In some places the hedges are a little to high to see the breaching whales or a little overgrown to accommodate the many people that take this path.Written 9 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - plgetzWaynesville, MO330 contributionsWas a little chilly and windy so not as crowded as it might have been. Nice out of the way beach to just chill out and enjoy the sun and sand.Written 11 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AM20 contributionsWe were in walking distance to the shops so went regularly. It is a lovely plaza with a nice range of shops, many pretty high end but others that are more average. It is great that there is now free parking.
However....just in case management looks at these reviews. Some of the stores choose to close before closing time which is supposed to be at 9pm. One shop even closed their doors at 8:15. In speaking with a sales person at one of the stores where I made a purchase, he advised that all stores are supposed to close at the same time.Written 27 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I stayed mostly on the shore to read, occasionally wading into the water but not beyond neck deep. Fantastic experience.
He went down to the south side to snorkel, around the rocks. The snorkeling was AMAZING - a few snorkeler boats disembarked there for a while - but then he got caught up and couldn’t get back around the rocks. He had a harrowing experience and ended up having to climb up the rocks and over, and made it back to me a bit beaten up. Be careful, especially if the sea is rough.Written 1 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SleepyTravellersMelbourne, Australia131 contributionsSimple life of swimming with the turtles. It is a small, sandy beach in a lava rock cove. There is a public toilet here and parking for about 20-odd cars.Written 17 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joanne MVenice, FL7 contributionsI have never seen such big waves in person. There is a warning that if you're not a strong swimmer to stay out. - Diane C4 contributionsGreat beach to view Hugh turtles that come to the beach each evening… we saw at least 15 that came in. - roderick M134 contributionsThis soft, sandy, uncrowded, sloping beach in a rural setting, is at the northern end of Big Beach in Makena State Park. The quiet, great swpmming and boogie boarding beach is just before the trail up over the foot of Puu Olai cinder cone to the secluded, clothing optional Little Beach. The view back towards Big Beach from the top of the trail, is exceptional and breathtaking. Even if you don't want to go to Little Beach, you must climb the trail for great photo ops of Little and Big Beaches. This is a kid friendly, family oriented adventure that you won't forget. A lot of friendly locals use this beach in the less travelled area of south Wailea along Makena Road.Don't miss the opportunity to see this magnificent, gorgeous mile long stretch of beach that stretches from Oneloa Beach to Secret Cove below Big Beach.Written 16 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
