Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great way to spend an afternoon. Very informative. Tip there are six speakers on the bus make sure you sit close to one. Leave something on your seat so you will get the same seat every you get off. If you are not near a speaker you cannot hear anything from the road noise and the a/c blowing.

Loved this entire thing! The swamp tour was super fun and our guide was amazing. The plantation was breath taking and super interesting to learn about life during that era. 100% worth the money.

Touring the historical plantation home. And the view down the lane surrounded by live oaks to the home. Beautiful!

Our tour bus driver was so passionate about his city. He shared so many things about local history that I just soaked up. He was personable and funny. He really wanted us to enjoy our trip in NOLA, as well as the plantation.
The plantation was heavy for me. I absolutely love what they have done. Making this experience to honor those enslaved people, to give them a voice, to make sure we don't sugar coat what really went on, who the real victims were. Preserving American history is vital to us as a people. This tour should be mandatory by all schools, not just during Black History Month, it is American history and should be part of the curriculum.
I met a woman who worked there and she was SO knowledgeable and shared more about the property and the proprietor. It was just something my soul needed.

This was a fantastic tour! The plantation is very beautiful and on the cloudy day we had, it was a great atmosphere for photos. I was a tiny bit upset that I couldn't take pictures inside the house, but I completely understand why. It's more important to preserve the history than it is for me to have pictures I most likely won't look at many times. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer questions and listen as some guests (my aunt included) told their own stories. There was plenty of time to see everything and grab a bite to eat before we went on.

The swamp tour was absolutely fantastic! The guide was very knowledgeable and hilarious and always made sure to stop whenever anyone pointed out a gator. He also has a baby gator you can hold and he is so cute! Though they normally hibernate in January, we were able to see many gators out sunbathing since it was sunny and 80° F. I misunderstood part of the tour: I thought we would get out and explore a fishing village, but you see it from the boat.

    I highly recommend this tour!

What a wonderful tour! Emicka was our driver, and she was outstanding. Funny, smart, and entertaining. She went above and beyond what one would expect from a tour bus driver. She turned what I expected to be a rather long and tedious bus ride into something fun, and informative. Tour bus itself was punctual, safe, and pleasant.

We did the two plantation tour of the Laura and Oak Alley plantations. We were surprised at our reaction to them. They are two very different plantations, and offer two very different tours. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Laura plantation. Our guide, Pam, was outstanding. Her tour was a performance, and a good one at that. She gave us the complete narrative of life on the Laura plantation for both the owners and the slaves, as well as the behind the scenes drama. No detail was too scandalous to omit, and she provided a authentic and real context to what life was like on this plantation. We left this tour wanting to learn more. Needless to say, we felt so connected to this plantation, that we purchased the book written about it by Laura herself.

On the other hand, we left our tour of the Oak Alley plantation feeling empty. The tour of the house of this plantation provided little, if any, back story to what life was like back then. The main house itself is much more polished and sanitized compared to the Laura main structure. Which is great for pictures of a fantasy life on a plantation, but provided little to no context to what life was really like. For example, the relevant role that enslaved people played was basically skipped over during the tour of the main house, and segregated to a tour you could do on your own (although there was a separate guide available by the slave houses to answer questions, but no formal tour). One left this plantation with little to no knowledge of who developed and built it, and what their lives must have been like.

So if you are interested in learning about what life was really like on a plantation in the 18th & 19th centuries, I strongly suggest you visit the Laura plantation. But if you are just interested in the fantasy life of living on a plantation for your Instagram account, I think you will prefer the Oak Alley plantation. But whichever tour you decide, I suggest you book via Cajun Tours with Emicka!

The plantation tour was very informative. The restoration of the plantation home was fabulous.

The airboat ride was fantastic. We were lucky to have a sunny day in November and saw lots of birds and Alligators. The guide was fun and informative.

I highly recommend both this tour and Tours by Isabelle. Our tour guide Gisele was excellent. She provided us with a lot of historical background about New Orleans and the area and pointed out interesting features along the way. We were picked up at our hotel exactly on time. A visit to Whitney Plantation is a must.

A long bus ride (50 min) made very enjoyable by the awesome bus driver Brian. Made the trip there and back seem like it was only a few minutes. The plantation house tour is done by oak alley. The house is beautiful and very interesting. The tour is quite large (about 20 people). And they have the tours back to back. No wandering allowed. You will have time to catch a quick lunch at the cafe which is very good. Then back on the bus with The Great Brian (he really was great) to drop off swamp tour people. If not he will drop you back off at your starting point. Well worth the trip.

Great tour overall! Nice, clean tour bus, and we stayed fairly on time throughout the day. Were picked up from our hotel near Bourbon Street around 8:15 AM and dropped off around 4:30/5.

Would definitely recommend the Whitney Plantation tour (self-guided with earphones and prerecorded commentary) and the airboat swamp tour (gators!).

I do wish the communication was better - we loved the hotel pick-up and drop-off but didn't really receive any sort of confirmation or info on that process beforehand. Left kind of wondering but ended up working out.
