Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Donna A6 contributionsThis is a beautifully laid out garden with sculptures of varied types and styles. It is also next to the botanical gardens which makes for a lovely excursion.Written 19 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Susan PBloomfield, CT169 contributionsI thought this would be a yawn. That's the jaded part of me. However, I was enthralled by the variety and beauty of the collection I found here. The day we were there the museum was hosting a Martin Luther King special event which made the museum especially lively - and crowded. I would like to return when I can fully soak in the art.Written 9 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - susanonoAlbuquerque, NM932 contributionsOr maybe Al swings or bops, but he definitely knows an absolute ton about the history of jazz and it’s assorted offshoots. He starts with ancient Egypt and works his way up to modern times via his words and an odd collection of tape decks scattered over two rooms, and pictures and memorabilia that plaster the walls. He also allows dancing but leave your camera in your pocket unless you want a picture with Al but don’t be photographing the exhibits. If you have any interest in jazz you will enjoy an hour with Al, you will learn something and you might find yourself dancing.
As others have mentioned please call first and make an appointment so as to avoid disappointment.Written 29 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was formed back in 1976 and is a valuable part of the community. Worth a look.Written 15 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NanienteWindsor, Canada12 contributionsI had hesitated to go to the per(SISTER) exhibit, about incarcerated women serving life sentences in Louisiana, with my partner. However I knew all was right when he said afterwards “I don’t think I’ve ever learned more in such a short time”.
The interpretations by local artists of various SISTERS’ lives were beautiful and touching. The curator blended the right amount of information, along with an on the floor timeline of the justice system as it developed in Louisiana.
We were fortunate to be there for a tour, however, this is a tour that can be appreciated by taking the time to look, read, and then look again. Loved it.Written 18 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Garrett SDurham, North Carolina, United States115 contributionsUnfortunately, the main building is undergoing renovations, so we visited the scaled-down version across the street in the Treme district. Still, it was a cool experience. There was an exhibit on early 20th-century photographers and Dutch Moriel, the first black mayor of New Orleans. It is $20 each so a little pricey but worth it to get a true experience of the culture in the city.Written 13 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sara HMenomonee Falls, WI322 contributionsFound some unique pieces to take home. Nice having a variety of artists. Every time should have something different so would come back again.Written 4 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - EarthSki68Ithaca, NY38 contributionsI had a wonderful visit with artist Charles Gillam at this Algiers Point Destination. Charles is incredibly personable and filled with stories about the Blues greats and also about fellow artists and New Orleans history. Most of his art is for sale and incredibly affordable although you can visit the museum with or without purchasing. A taxi/LYFT ride from the heart of the French Quarter is only like $6 and completely worth a trip. Pure Magic for Folk Art Lovers!Written 18 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
